| Has anyone had this happen? Baby is measuring large at 24w (95th %ile). I did the glucose test and am waiting on the results. I'm overweight, so I know it's probably GD/my fault. But we're also really tall, so is it possible we're healthy and just big? |
|
Yep. My third was born at 9 pounds on his due date. He is 2.5 and busting out of 4t size clothing. Just a big guy all around - tall, solid, etc. No GD or health worries, though I did eat A TON of sweets weeks 38-40. I am 5’8” and healthy weight but come from a tall family; DH is 6’. So neither of us is very tall.
The only “thing” is that a baby over a certain weight can have trouble controlling his blood sugar at and shortly after birth (I think 1000g but can’t remember), and DS was just over the line. So they took his blood before feeding a few times in the hospital to check that. He did fine and it didn’t require any further follow up. |

I didn't have GD.
My 2nd was 9, 15 oz. My 3rd was 10, 8 oz and too long to fit into the 0-3 month clothes. We are both tall. |
|
If you and your partner are both in the 90th percentile for height, your baby likely will be as well.
I'd also note that measuring a baby at this point is not a perfect science. At 41 weeks, I was told my baby was measuring at almost 9 lbs. She was born three days later at 6 lbs 3 oz. |
| I had two ten pound babies and no GD. I’m 5’8” and DH is 6’4” and was a giant baby myself (10.5) to a petite woman who also had no GD. |
| My middle guy was 22.5 inches and 9 lbs 6 oz at birth - no GD. |
|
I’m 5’4” and I had a 9 lb 8oz baby. My BMI was normal (before pregnancy) but I did gain a ridiculous amount of weight — 40 pounds! I did not have gestational diabetes and the baby was born vaginally. He was healthy, I was healthy, everything was fine. My husband is 6’1” but still, my son was one HUGE baby! |

No GD here.
My oldest was born 4 weeks early at 8 lbs. My second was born on due date at 8lbs 14 oz |
| 5'6'' woman here, average BMI before pregnancy. No GD and had a healthy 9lb 12 oz baby boy vaginally with no tearing. |
|
5'7 woman, gained 25 lbs from a starting point of 120, and I had a 9.10 lb baby
I actually had to have daily stress tests right before labor because they thought he was measuring "too small" for some reason then he turned out to be 9 lbs. 10 oz! So weird |
| Ds was 11lb, 6oz. No GD, I passed the test with flying colors. He was just big. |
| I had a healthy pregnancy and a healthy 10 lb 3 oz boy. He stayed at the top of the height chart, middle of the weight chart through childhood. He is now 13 and just topped 6'. Some people are just big! |
| Yes, my first was 10 lb. measured 2 weeks ahead at a 24 week ultrasound I received as being a research study participant. My husband is 6'4'' but I believe my stupid Bradley class diet played a role, too. I was scarfing down at least 80g protein daily. subsequent kids were 9 lb and 7 lb 12 oz. The last baby I drank a lot of coffee. |

I'm 5'4" and DH is 5'8". No GD with either pregnancy. Our first baby was 9lbs 12 oz, and 22" long. Our second was 20" long and weighed 6 lbs. 12 oz.
They are now 5 and 3 and their heights remain in the 90th percentiles. If you compare their heights at the same age, they are the same -- but the 3YO always weighs exactly 3 lbs less at that same age. (5YO has a stockier build, broader shoulders, 3YO has a more slender build.) |

I am overweight and tall. I had my growth scan last week and my baby girl is measuring 76th percentile, just over 6lbs at 34 weeks. Her limbs measured closer to average but she had a bigger head and abdomen. I dont know what that means - fat baby with a big head? Anyway, I scored on the low side on my 1-hour GD screening (80, normal = 65-140) so its possible to create a big baby w/o having GD.
At my 24 week appt. I had only gained 2 lbs (have been doing tele-health since covid). I havent really restricted myself food wise this pregnancy but im sure cutting out all alcohol helps. The growth scan was at MFM and they didnt weigh me so I will be curious to find out what I weigh at my in-person OB appt. next week. Even though I'm well into my 3rd trimester my clothes fit with room, even some non-maternity clothes (yoga pants and a few longer tops). |
