| Healthy weight pre-pregnancy, put on 34 lbs while pregnant. 5’10”. No GD. Was induced, baby born over a week early. 9 lbs 3 oz. |
| Some people just have really big babies with no other factors (no gestational diabetes, not overweight, normal weight gain). |
|
By the way, measurements of expected baby weight are notoriously inaccurate.

I’m short and fit and had a 9 pounder. SIL is taller than me (5’6”), mildly anorexic and had all 8-10 pounders. I think it’s more of a family trait thing?
Also mine was measuring big, then they said he was fine a couple weeks before birth and the. He came out sunny side up with a 99th percentile head. That didn’t feel good... so agreeing with the horrible inaccuracy of measurements too |

I've had 2 babies - one 7 lb 8 oz girl, one 9 lb 8 oz boy. Both pregnancies I failed the 1 hr screening but passed all 4 draws on the 3 hr test, so no GD. By BMI I am slightly overweight, but I promise you it is mostly muscle and maybe big boobs. I gained I think 30 lbs with first pregnancy and 25 lbs with 2nd (the big one). I had a similar lifestyle in both pregnancies, including daily exercise and also keeping my carbs below 40% (which I started after gettin freaked out failing my first 1 hr glucose screening). For 2nd baby, I was even more diligent in avoiding sweets throughout pregnancy. Both were overdue - 1st baby 42 weeks, 2nd baby 40 wks 6 days.
I might want a third child but my big baby had mild shoulder dystocia so I'm sort of scared of having a big baby again. I feel like it must somehow be something I did to get this big baby the 2nd time, but I don't know what it could be. I think for me to gain less weight (like less than 20 lbs), I would really have to restrict myself or go even lower carb. |
| No GD, I'm short and not overweight and my husband is very tall. 2nd baby was 10.5 pounds and 3rd baby was 9 lbs 10 oz. Both 1-2 weeks early. First baby was small at 8.5 lbs. |
| My second was born on her due date and was almost 10 lbs. She had shoulder dystocia and a very, very scary delivery. No signs of GD. Just an unexpectedly big baby. |
Mine was “big” but it turned out he was just really tall and skinny. All babies in DH’s family are like this, like under 7 lbs but 22 inches. |
| I’m average weight, on the thinner side. Both babies were close to nine pounds. No GD either time. |
| Thanks, all. I failed the glucose test, so it's probably not just a big baby. Fingers crossed for the 3 hour test. |
| I'm 5'8" and DH is 6'. Second baby without GD was 9 lb 5 oz, born vaginally 2 days before his due date. The delivery team was shocked he was so huge given how he was measuring/feeling before birth. I was healthy weight pre-pregnancy and gained 40 lbs. He's 4 and tall and skinny now. |
