| Did APS take down the maps showing the options? I'm getting a file not found error. |
Hope so. Hope they grow a damn spine and just say "here's what we're doing, and it DOES not include capitulating to the loudest voices. |
Yeah!!! Williamsburg to 4%, that'll show emotion. |
I love it. In other news, Gillespie gained quite a few Arlington voters this past week. |
Sorry to disappoint you. In no scenario would my family be zoned Kenmore or Swanson. |
| I have a question for some of the posters arguing about the unfairness of focusing on demographics. If you are upset that Williamsburg has a low percentage of underprivileged students, would you support the proposed boundary map that only took demographics into consideration? The map that really sliced vertically through the county? |
Sorry to disappoint you, but your stupid choices make the entire system worse. Enjoy those chickens, plus the drug sniffing dogs at Williamsburg. |
Nope. Not at Williamsburg either. I agree that Williamsburg would benefit from a more diverse student body. Please share your thoughts with the SB. Help be the change you want to see in the world.

And your false sense of security right back at ya. -NP |
What are your kids doing to be that change? Nothing. But you'd gladly sacrifice the education of strangers' children, as well as their ability to walk to school. You got yours, right? Yeah, you're quite the change. I can't wait for Arlington's plans to be widely shared across the state of Virginia. Don't worry, we downloaded the demographic scenarios. |
I would totally be fine with the demographics only option, even though it would increase busing. |
They're fine with it. They're the limousine liberals who care about diversity only to the extent that their kids are not surrounded by the diverse. |
Arlington specifically said they weren't considering that option, and only the blended plans. They know it won't happen so they can "support" it. |
Why would I be worried that you downloaded the demographic scenarios? Why does the state of va care? My kid goes to a fantastic diverse middle school. They have a great group of friends. I don’t consider Kenmore to be a lesser school. I’ve heard only good things from parents who have students attending. I would have no problem if my PU got shifted that direction. I can’t even imagine considering such a change as a sacrifice. What an outlandish idea! I understand your preference to walk. That’s understandable. I’m sure the SB will take that into consideration when they work through this boundary shift. However, balancing demographics at Kenmore seems like to bigger community priority. It would be great if they can find a way to do both. I think people who want to walk need to figure out a simple way to get Kenmore down to 45%, that doesn’t include them. |
Years ago the so-called Williamsburg island came about because APS was trying to inject some diversity into Williamsburg. Do it in reverse. Take a few of those planning units that bus to Williamsburg and turn them into a Kenmore island. If APS is so committed to diversity, put kids who might otherwise go to Williamsburg or Stratford on buses to Kenmore or Jefferson, and then take a busload or two from south Arlington to do something about the FARMS rate at the northern schools. You have plenty of children on buses, simply change the bus routes and send them to a different school. It sounds ridiculous, but no more so than taking kids 3 blocks from a school and turning them into bus riders. |
