Hahaha. Yeah. That's why Williamsburg will be at 2-4% farms, while three other schools are 40-55%. Uh huh. Nah, you'll just sacrifice walkers for optics, making their lives worse, while making those North North Arlington property values oh so much better. Sure, they care about us all.
This. All the so-called liberals in $1-2M houses in far north Arlington vote for Democratic County Board members who are pro-affordable housing because, you know, it's good to have diversity and support poor people. Then, they fight like hell to keep that affordable housing off of Lee Highway where it might possibly require them to rub elbows with the residents, so it all continues to get pushed into one corner of the county. Once the schools get over-crowded and a few have too much concentrated-poverty, then they happily support busing all sorts of kids all over the place because, you know, it's good to have diverse schools as long as those kids being bused aren't their own and they get to stay safely in their bubble at their 4% FARMS schools.
There is truth to this, but where were you during the AHMP? CARD worked very hard to address this inequity, but their numbers weren’t robust to be sure. That was the time to speak up.
Actually, I spoke up and emailed the County Board since I believe we have put way too much emphasis and money into affordable housing in this county, regardless of where it's located.
Ok, but that doesn’t put affordable housing on Lee highway if that’s what you’re after.
Uhhhh... Your focus should be on getting rid of affordable housing.
That is not and will never be my focus.
Enjoy those chickens, then.
Sorry to disappoint you. In no scenario would my family be zoned Kenmore or Swanson.
Sorry to disappoint you, but your stupid choices make the entire system worse. Enjoy those chickens, plus the drug sniffing dogs at Williamsburg.
Nope. Not at Williamsburg either. I agree that Williamsburg would benefit from a more diverse student body. Please share your thoughts with the SB. Help be the change you want to see in the world. :)
What are your kids doing to be that change? Nothing. But you'd gladly sacrifice the education of strangers' children, as well as their ability to walk to school. You got yours, right? Yeah, you're quite the change. I can't wait for Arlington's plans to be widely shared across the state of Virginia. Don't worry, we downloaded the demographic scenarios.
Why would I be worried that you downloaded the demographic scenarios? Why does the state of va care? My kid goes to a fantastic diverse middle school. They have a great group of friends. I don’t consider Kenmore to be a lesser school. I’ve heard only good things from parents who have students attending. I would have no problem if my PU got shifted that direction. I can’t even imagine considering such a change as a sacrifice. What an outlandish idea! I understand your preference to walk. That’s understandable. I’m sure the SB will take that into consideration when they work through this boundary shift. However, balancing demographics at Kenmore seems like to bigger community priority. It would be great if they can find a way to do both. I think people who want to walk need to figure out a simple way to get Kenmore down to 45%, that doesn’t include them.
