No, I'm referring to Maureen Brady proudly being at the Jan 6th insurrection, when Republicans stormed the Capitol trying to overthrow the election results. “ The first violence started on the West steps plaza and lawn when teargas was shot into a crowd of people waving flags. I was part of that crowd from minute five. ” https://gab.com/MoBro/posts/105521765155941317 |
I think one big issue with FCPS is that they try to put their hands into so many different pots, then flood parents with multiple emails each day, that are very long and difficult to read. Sometimes the exact same email will arrive in our inboxes from multiple school board reps, multiple schools for those of us with kids in different buildings, the superintendent and the school counselor. This is in addition to any extra emails from the counselors, college counseling staff, and possible teachers/clubs/coaches. I have had days where I receive 7 or 8 very long emails from various FCPS representatives, all saying the exact same thing just a little differently, with at least 1/3 or more of the information having zero to do with academics. Because FCPS is focusing on so many non academic things in their emails, and sending them in multiple formats from multiple people on the same day, it is SO easy to ignore, miss, or overlook the information in the emails. FCPS needs to find a better, more efficient, and more concise way to disseminate information, and limit those emails to details that are specifically focused on academics and schools. For example, the religious holiday messages in the emails are at least a paragraph of information, plus a huge clip art photo. Those should just be name - date - bullet point (1 sentence description). In a recent email, fcps posted an announcement of Native American Heritage month. It was this paragraph, plus a clip art. "Native American Heritage Month is a time to celebrate rich and diverse cultures, traditions, and histories; and to acknowledge the important contributions of Native Americans. It is also an opportunity to raise awareness about the unique challenges they have faced historically and in the present, and the ways in which tribal citizens have worked to conquer these challenges. Learn more about the heritage months, celebrations, and traditions celebrated in FCPS." The announcement could have been one sentence, put at the top of the email in the calendar swction with no clip art. They do this with so many announcements that the important stuff is just lost. |
Davis is a vapid joke. The latest in a long line of GOP closet cases who regurgitate the same 6 sentences hoping to fool voters. She doesn’t have a single qualification to lead our schools and her only track record is leading the failed recall attempts. |
We don’t elect School Board members to lead FCPS. We elect them to exercise oversight over those hired to run the schools. Part of the problem we currently have is too many School Board members hijacking FCPS to push their own bad ideas. Davis understands this. And if there is any “closet case” running for an at-large seat, it would be Kyle McDaniel, not Davis. |
She came to my neighborhood association candidates forum and she couldnt answer any questions. She said flat out that she didn’t know when asked a question about state funding formulas |
It’s actually refreshing that a candidate would admit that she might need to ask others to answer a question, rather than pretend to be a know-it-all like some of the current jokes on the School Board. In any case, the stock answer about state funding formulas is to claim Fairfax should get more from the state and ROVA should get less. That’s outside the School Board’s ability to decide, and saying Fairfax should get more doesn’t just make it happen. |
Based on her website, questionnaire responses, and Fox News interviews, the only thing she understands is how to regurgitate 4 buzz words. She would be a disaster leading our schools. |
Then I guess we don’t appoint her as superintendent to replace Dr. Reid, who was hired to “lead our schools.” On the other hand, if you look at other at-large candidates McElveen is frivolous and only known because he announced snow days to kids before the official FCPS announcements and McDaniel’s main claim to fame is that he’s a former Republican and married father of two who conveniently both became a far-left Democratic and publicly announced he’s bisexual in an apparent effort to appeal to what he now believes to be voter preferences in the county. |
ROVA gets so much. FCPS doesn't get what we put in. We need people on the board who understand this and will lobby our legislators to advocate for fixing the formula. That's why it'll be great to have people like Laura Jane Cohen and Stella Pekarsky in the GA who understand the formulas. |
There is some merit to this argument. However, if northern Virginia delegates fight for funding distribution on the state level based off the percentage of taxes paid into the state pot, then returned to the county for education, doesn't that also mean McLean, Langly, Fairfax Station and Vienna wealthy parents can also argue that since they pay the most money into the tax pot, they should receive more money than the poorer schools like Mount Vernon. Or does the NoVA delegates arguing that Virginia should get more state tax money returned since NoVA is the wealthiest and pays the most taxes to the state, that the many times more funds given to ESOL and FARMS students across Fairfax county schools like Lewis, Mount Vernon and Justice be reduced significantly so the wealthy and English speaking students can receive an equal amount of per pupil funds or proportionally more, since the Langley, Vienna, McLean and Fairfax Station parents are paying much more in taxes? |
I’m sure the board would agree. |
No OP but what was being said is that the state funding formula (not just for schools, for everything) is backwards and just assumes that because of the wealth of Fairfax there are no enclaves of FARMs. I understand the McLean argument but it isn’t really relevant to this case. But yes “We pay more in taxes therefore we need to get more out of the state” is a simplistic way for OP to phrase it. |
This is what we have congress and senate at the state level for. They qork on the state budget. The school board needs to understand the budget but lobbying should not be at the top of their list. They need to understand the school budget better and the programs in thee school and then more generally what is happening with the rest of the state and nation. |
Ah yes “Congress at the state level.” Do you, could you, mean the General Assembly? |
Yes General Assembly. State representative. |
