It’s been 11 weeks since my preschool age only child played with another kid. I’ve done my best to play all the 4 yr old games she likes - dress up, dolls, sports, pretend etc. But I’ve hit a wall... My very last nerve is shot and I DONT WANT TO PLAY. And I’m embracing my worst self as moody mom.
At what point can I say “F this” And do a play date? Any other parents of only’s sick of always being Anna in Frozen? Or the other opponent of Wrestle Mania- Living Room edition. Because its looking like it will be another 12 weeks until DD has organized kid activity (school). There is not enough wine to make it through the summer... |
We are in phase 1, play dates are OK |
Outside might be ok.....each day a dfferet kid? |
The pretend games are killing me. But I’m not ready to allow play dates yet so I’ll “be” Sky from the Paw Patrol today no doubt..,, |
We did an outdoor play date last week. Will do another next week. |
I hate pretend play. I will read, do puzzles, color, play doh but the pretend play really gets me. We finally let our DD (4) play with the neighbors kids last week, outside, running around, bubbles, etc. It was wonderful. The kids needed it so badly and I feel okay with whatever small risk there may be. Personally I think playing outside is fine! |
Skye. Ask me how I know ![]() |
I feel you OP |
The only thing saving me is we switched nap time to quiet time and he’s in his room for 2 hours playing by himself. |

I totally get it but then I think of all the useless work meetings i can now participate in while on mute with video off instead of having to keep a poker face on, and I feel like it's a fair trade (for pretend play). |
I’ve been the mother owl in a nest of owlets all morning. It’s so awful...
But still no play dates for us - I’m just not comfortable with the risk. So, it’s back to the nest for me. |
