| I have some airline credit that needs to get used by the end of the year. I’m considering booking flights to either Aruba or Puerto Rico in December. Is this a terrible idea? If I don’t use the credit I’ll loose it (which is ok if it comes to that). Is this a terrible idea? I’d like to go somewhere warm over Christmas break. Maybe Hawaii would be safer. I know my vision is clouded because I don’t want to loose the airline credit (about $3000). |
| Not a bad idea at all since you'll lose it anyway. |
|
I mean if it's use it or lose it I would book now just in case. A direct flight to PR isn't any different to me than a direct flight to Miami, Vegas, whatever.
|
| I would think PR would be safer, given that it's in the U.S. so less likely to get hit with a travel ban or something. |
| OP here. I agree that PR might be safer given that it’s within the United States. Maybe I’ll book that. Although I wouldn’t be able to rent a car and drive home if needed. |
|
You’ll have to quarantine for 2 weeks to re enter US.
As long as that is fine with you... |
Did your crystal ball tell you that? |
How do you know this? |
| OP here. I have to quarantine for 2 weeks to fly from Puerto Rico to VA? Is this accurate? |
|
You can book it but there's a good possibility the trip won't happen. But if you're going to lose the credit anyhow, there's not a huge risk in booking it.
I think a trip over the summer is more likely to happen. Things might be bad again in the fall/winter. |
| I had a trip this summer scheduled for Aruba, but the flight got cancelled. Prior we started to worry that they wouldn't let us in as US had so many more cases than Aruba. The flight might be cancelled if there is another flare up come winter. Just a fact of life now. |
| We are tentatively planning PR in November. Not booking yet but trying to plan it. We don't need to stay at a hotel so that helps. |
| I think the best time to go will be August- October. In between wave one and wave two. Once flu season hits in late October / November, I think we will all be stuck at home again. |
|
If you book it now and then they cancel the flight, you could probably push out the rebooking to as far as December 2021. Not a bad option.
I’d also do PR, since it’s domestic |
| Hasn’t the president made it pretty clear that he isn’t shutting down the country again regardless of a second wave? Although I suppose a governor might require a quarantine for a state. |
