Pick a white paint color for my basement!

It is getting painted! Woo-hoo! I want a white, but it’s recommended to be a little grey or yellow or blue or something to make it nicer and hide imperfections. Please help me pick a color - as light as possible to lighten up my dark basement but something not pure white to make my husband, the painter, happy!

BM simply white.

But as always, it matters a lot what color your trim is (it’s not “pure white.” There’s no such thing), what color the ceiling is, and what color the flooring is. Simply White has yellow undertones and it goes well with most other whites, but you need a sample to be sure.

Just do white. How does a tint make imperfections less noticeable? It doesn't.

I just painted my basement and did BM Cloud White semi-gloss on the walls and the same color in high gloss on the trim. It looks super warm and bright and not at all gloomy. I love it!

I much prefer flat paint on walls.

A lot of people do, but I will tell you that semi gloss does 2 things really well: 1. Super easy to clean/scrub without taking the paint off and 2. Reflects light so it makes smaller, darker rooms (such as basements) seem brighter. I only paint My house in semi-gloss for these two reasons.

I like BM Chantilly Lace to brighten rooms. A very bright white with blue undertones.

Yikes. I also vote for flat paint on most walls. At most, I would do an eggshell (bathrooms, kitchen) in a basement. Also somewhat washable.

Flat paint will hide imperfections as well as adding 25% more black to the color.

Chantilly Lace is fabulous. Bright, modern, works with every exposure.
