What age is "early retirement"?

What age would you consider a person to be retired early?
Anonymous
I think 50-55 is considered "early". My personal view.

I would say anything under 62.

40's baby's age. What are you retiring from?

From a social security perspective, yes, but from a retirement account perspective, I would say 59 1/2.

But really, I would say 65 because that's when you can get medicare. Health care is the #1 issue for retirees. Well, it is for us at least.

Before 65

Can be any time from 50-59.

Before then it’s quitting.
After that it’s standard retirement.

Anytime before Medicare kicks in.

This. The ability to self-fund healthcare without working.

The exception to59 1/2 is the rule of 55, which allows penalty-free 401k withdrawals if you retire from the company where you have your 401k.
