my 1st grader is an excellent reader. He used to join us in his sister's room for bedtime stories but lately, he has been opting out to read on his own. I would love to find a chapter book that I could read to them that both of them could enjoy. any recommendations? |
Things my son enjoyed between that time frame
Harry Potter 1-3 Ramona Quimby/Henry Huggins books Charlie and the chocolate factory The chocolate touch Wayside school books Boxcar children My favorite were the Ramona series. They are truly timeless. (Henry hasn’t aged quite so well with stereotypes, but Ramona is just typical childhood struggles) |
Roald Dahl books
Charlotte's Web Kate Decamillo books Princess in black books |
The Phantom Tollbooth!
The Search for Delicious Alcatraz vs the Evil Librarians |
The Magic Treehouse series |

Anna Hibiscus worked great at those ages for my kids. |
Penderwicks? |
All great suggestions above, especially The Search for Delicious. My mom read it to me when I was little and I read it to my kids. Timeless book full of adventure! My kids have also liked the Keeper of the Lost Cities series. |
