Toys Go Out and sequels
Dick King-Smith books (Babe, but he has lots of animal books) Doll People and sequels Mary Poppins and sequels Winnie the Pooh (the original Milne Pooh is much cleverer than the Disney version) |
My kids are younger (almost 4 and almost 6) but I’ve been reading the Laura Ingalls Wilder books to them and they love them. Also, re: Magic Treehouse, they both looooove listening to them on Audible. |
I love so many of these suggestions. I've been reading my K'er all of the EB White novels. I think our favorite so far is The Trumpet of the Swan. Probably more challenging for kid to read to themselves though. |
I had no idea he wrote babe! We just read “Pigs might fly” by him with my just turned 6 year old. It was a little realistic (based on a farm and all that entails), but the story was sweet. |
King-Smith’s Lady Lollipop is also really good. |
Harry Potter 1-3.
The Roald Dahl books. Matilda & the BFG are good intros. |
James and the Giant Peach was a big hit for my kids at those ages.
