I'm clearly not as immersed in soccer as many on here.
My kid just plays Stoddert rising U11 in CCL1. The club wants fall registrations by Jun 15th for a discount. What do people think about the odds of there being a fall season? |
|
Yes it seems you've missed a few threads. Ill give you the cliff notes (haha do they exist? )
No one knows of there will be a fall season. There are multiple threads of eveyone arguing why or why not..still..no one knows. My personal guess is that there will be practices with no games. Other clubs are also requiring commitments. Check oit the bsc thread and some of the va threads (i forget which) Some ppl signed up for whatever reasons (older child, high team, active kids). Some didn't and are doing rec for awhile (threads on mid tier, uncertainty of fall, multiple kids and cost, kids were getting sick travel) Ultimately you have to look at your kids and finances and make that decision. Whatever you decide, dont beat yourself up and enjoy it. You can like change mid or next year. (Words to myself) good luck! |
| At this point, any payments to clubs with questionable finance structures is a gamble. Do they own property? Do they have full time employees? If so, you should probably go in with the assumption your fees paid before Sep 1 are a donation to the club. |
|
There will not be a Fall season like last Fall season.
I do think most people who have looked at this will agree on that point. Changes to practices are likely, perhaps even smaller practices less often. New hygiene rules on field and sidelines to keep social distance. Spectators less than welcomed to matches. And matches, if they occur, a bit more local perhaps or shortened. |
| I got the email too, and the good news is that Stoddert is offering refunds if there is no fall season. |
thats awesome! |
Ummmm, Stoddert says that fees will be “reduced or refunded” if there are modifications to the Fall season. Take a wild guess what Stoddert (and most other travel clubs) will choose. We are assuming no Fall season and no refund. |
| They offered a partial refund for this past Spring for non-returning players and a credit for returning players in the same email. |
|
yes, there is no promise for a fall refund. just vague phrasing about reduced fees. you know if we pay $3k for the year and they don't have fall (likely) we'll be getting back about $2. 😭
and yet there is no ability to try out elsewhere. they really have us over a barrel here. 🙁 |
Don't fall into the trap. You have no ability to try out elsewhere, but they have little to no ability to add new players. Tell them you are interested but your situation is in flux and can't yet commit. Its telling how s----- so many of these clubs are. They should be leveling with their existing customers and explaining that in order for them to stay afloat and keep coaches employed, they'll need to collect some upfront money - which rational people will understand and be willing to follow the club's lead - but, instead, their strategy is to go with scare tactics that your kid is going to be left out if you don't commit and pay. |
That is the culture of travel soccer. |
| I am not paying until the end of August. If your kid is good, the club will find a spot - they desperately need the $. |
But if you commit now, aren't you still on the hook for the money? Whether you pay now or later.. fall season or not..isn't it still owed? I want to be like "actually there's no fall so Im not paying" but since we committed now, Im still responsible. |
| My kids play Stoddert rec (and BSC travel) and got an email from Stoddert saying kids could join Stoddert travel without trying out and to fill out an interest form. I am not sure how they can have people join without tryouts. |
They may move them to lower teams during the year. Or just make a team of new players for now. |
