Another 3 row suv question

Anonymous
I know that similar questions have been asked before. Spouse and I both drive mid-size sedans currently. We currently have two young kids (still in car seats) and are hoping to have a third. I am looking for 3-row SUV options. I’d really like to avoid a super large vehicle like the Yukon XL but want to make sure to have enough space down the road. I’d also like to avoid minivans but if they are truly the best option then I will consider it.

I was thinking about the XC90 since I recently drove one and liked it. However, I am concerned with 3 children, it would not be roomy enough for storage. Do I need to look for something bigger? I typically like Toyotas but did not care for the Highlander. I have also driven the Audi and Acura 3-row SUVs and the GMC Acadia and did not care for them. I also have not liked the Mercedes interiors that I have been in recently. Some options that looked good but I have not tried are the Lincoln Aviator, Chevy Tahoe, and VW Atlas. What else should I be considering?

We chose something larger than the XC-90 for storage reasons due to 2 kids plus a parent needing to be carried alongside luggage at times.

We only have two kids but love our VW Atlas. The captains chairs in second row with tilt is huge for access to the third row.

We love our Nissan Armada.

We have 3 kids and have had a Honda Odyssey minivan for 10 years. We recently shopped around for a suv and just can’t justify the switch. There is so much less room in suvs. We are going to stick with the odyssey until the kids are off to college.

Many of my status conscious friends have focused on the XC90, so that must be the cool SUV to own. I don't think it has good reviews, however.

+1

Just get over yourself and get a minivan.

I’m glad that your minivan is working for your family.

We need to tow on a regular basis so a minivan is not a good option.

You need a minivan. Getting to the third row for a car seat will be a massive pain in the behind.

And Kia dealers are marking them up over MSRP. Palisade can be found below MSRP, but no great deals to be had. Its a really tough segment to get that extra space and the XC90 is roomier than most (and gets great reviews, not sure what PP was talking about). Nothing will compare with the Yukon XL, etc though in terms of space - except a minivan.

Our neighbor has a Subaru Ascent and seems to really like it.

Either get a Yukon (or equivalent) or a minivan. We have a 3row (INFINITI) and rented a minivan last summer vacation. When we got back in the car at Dulles it felt so cramped. Also, most SUVs can’t put 3 across in the 2nd row, which is really the only benefit. Once you use the 3rd row you lose your cargo space. The lower floor of the van gives you a ton more space.

Anything but a minivan OP. I don't care how much space is available, those things are super ugly.

We have a Hyundai Santa Fe that we love, but that has two rows. Try looking at the Palisade.
