social distancing walks/runs

Stop doing this with both of you on a path or sidewalk. You're taking up the whole damn space. I will run/walk in between you and feel zero guilt, because YOU are the selfish one.

If you're going to do this, one of you is on the very far right, and the other is in the street or on the grass. You do not get to take up the whole damn path, plus all the space between you. How is this not a no brainer?!

The faster-moving vehicle has to give way - that means if you are overtaking, you need to slow down and either ask them to move over, or move yourself. I jog and speed-walk every day and never have this problem you're having. It sounds like maybe you need to find a less-crowded place to run.

It's actually not that crowded - it's only made crowded when jerks do things like this. If they walked single file and did not hog up the entire path, there would be plenty of room to pass.

No, people need to be aware of their surroundings and fall into single file. If I am approaching from behind I’ll say “coming up on your left.”

Go at 6am. No one is out then.

if it’s not crowded then you (the faster moving vehicle) need to go around, or slow down and request they move over if you can’t. Or do you also think cars need to drive as close to the curb as possible in case you need to pass? No, they drive in the middle of the lane, and you go around them when you pass. COVID will be around for a while, and nobody is going to be walking single file with their kids and spouse and dog on an uncrowded path, so you need to be realistic.

That’s fine - but you can’t expect them to jump out of your way. You need to move over as far as you can, and slow down.

No I'd just quickly go between them. People who do this can't be surprised or bothered.

We have a clique of women (who I know! So awkward!) who do this in groups of 3 of more in our neighborhood, which has narrow street and sidewalks right by the curb. There will be one person on each sidewalk and one in the middle of the street. Leaves the rest of us in a real bind. Obviously you can just dart by but as soon as there’s more than one person trying to get by it gets complicated.

Just shout out that you’re passing on the left. In my experience 99.9% move. But you need to do it in advance so people have chance to move. There is no point in shouting “on your left” when you are already literally to someone’s left.

I read OP's post to mean she physically can't go around them in a safe physical-distancing manner. If you and your friend are walking 6ft apart single file, there is still the other side of the trail. If you are 6ft from one another side-by-side, then literally there is no space for anyone to go around you whether running or biking. It's this sort of extreme selfishness as bolded above that is so frustrating.

When people do this, they take up 18 feet of space. Incredibly selfish and rude. It's like this:

---6ft---Person---6ft---Person---6ft---

I will always go in between you. You do not own 18ft of space of width. You walk single file, behind or in front of your friend. Or one of you is totally off the path/trail.

How about we act with some kindness. This is tough on everyone. We are all trying to find a way to get through this.
