DH and I want to start trying soon for number 2. I called my OB and asked if they are curre try scheduling regular appts like IUD removal and she said yes they can get me in next week. I haven't gone anywhere since March 12th so I'm wondering if going into the office would be foolish and I should delay. What do you think?
Please be kind my mom is on day 43 of COVID so I have been extremely cautious. |

I would go - you can’t put your whole life on hold for a year. Doctors know how to control infection and are being very cautious, so it’s less risky than the grocery store.
If you don’t go now, when? In 18 months if there is a vaccine? You could lose the possibility of ever having a second child. Just wear a mask, bring hand sanitizer, and try not to touch anything. |
| If they say you can come in, they mean it. I have been to a few medical appts in the past two weeks. I call from my car, they tell me when I can enter, I am the only one in the waiting room, it smells like disinfectant, they take my temp and have me fill out a recent health/symptom questionnaire, everyone is wearing masks and gloves and they get me out as quickly as possible. Hth. |
Ditto. I actually think health care providers are one of the safest places you can go right now (unlike grocery store, target, etc) because they take so many precautions. |
| I personally would wait until the summer. A few more weeks aren't going to change anything, and by that time hopefully the virus will have leveled off a bit. |
| I'm in my second trimester and my OB and MFM's offices are the cleanest places I've been in two months. Go for it. |
| I’m pregnant now and I really don’t know why folks are chomping at the bit so badly to start trying now. This is a super stressful time to be pregnant and have a newborn and many of the normal supports available to postpartum women are not available or accessible, and postpartum is already an incredibly challenging time even in the best or circumstances. What is the rush OP? |
| Don’t get pregnant now. |
I suspect this is sonething op has put a lot of thought into. |
| OP here- my plan is to get the IUD removed, track my cycles for a few months (I have no period at all on the IUD) and then head into TTC with an idea of my expected ovulation days. During the appointment I would definitely talk to my OB about TTC during this. |
I was talking with our pediatrician and he said he expects things will get worse after reopening, so there is no reason to think the virus will have leveled off by the summer. |
+1 Completely agree. I was glad to take care of my appointments now while patient load is very light (plus all the other things PP mentioned). |
|
I’d go in.
FYI I was immediately pregnant. Not even a full cycle passed. |
Go and practice all of the precautions. It is actually best to go now while everything is still relatively clean and sterile. Probable fewer patient visits reducing risk of exposure. Best of luck! |

You can also remove it yourself. It is painful but you can.
I would not be worried about the office but if you are worried, you can do it yourself |
