for the daycares that have been open, have there been outbreaks of covid? likely these children would be more at risk because their parents are essential workers
just a thought as we consider school reopening next year... |
No we haven’t. Nice try troll. |
I’m not OP but I see how this is a troll question. What has happened thus far at daycares that are open seems relevant when we’re thinking about opening more daycares. |
Nope, and it’s been open for the entire time, with the exception of maybe a week between when MD mandated the closure of all centers and when MD announced they could reopen for essential workers.
Also, not all essential workers are at increased risk of exposure. Both DH and I are essential and neither of us work in situations where our exposure risk is particularly high. |
I’ve been keeping an eye on this. I’m Currently teleworking, DH is essential but on a reduced schedule so we’ve been able to keep the kids home for now. If/when he goes back full time, we would probably have to enroll them- our regular daycare is open for essential worker kids. |
My neighbors are doctors and put their toddler in daycare. She said there are 3 kids at the center and everyone wears masks including the kids. They spend as much time outside as possible and try to limit interaction when possible.
Most likely when daycares do reopen capacity will be significantly reduced in order to follow safety measures. |
My sister-in-law in Virginia is still using daycare. No issues. I know some that are using an essential one here in Potomac as well and there are no issues there either. |
Very curious about this and this is clearly not a troll post!! |
I’m the PP at 17:15 and I meant NOT a troll post. Sorry. |
I & DH works at essential business industries, but we can telework from home. We keep our child at home even though we are eligible for free daycare. Our daycare is still open for essential workers only. My child is bored at home, and I have been wondering about if any kids at any daycare that are still opened catch anything or not. Even they check temperature at the entrance of daycare, reduce class size etc, one can have it without shown symptoms.
If I know that our daycare is 100% safe, I would definitely send my child back. Unfortunately, you never know. |
Well of course it’s not 100% safe. That’s an unrealistic hope. |
Umm ... it wasn’t 100% safe before the pandemic. It isn’t 100% safe to drive your kid to the daycare or take public transit. Your kid could’ve caught any manner of disease at daycare before this all started and that won’t change after this is over. |
PP here. As long as it is not covid 19 the my child catch, I am fine sending my kid back to daycare right away. For the past 2 years, my child have caught maybe less than 5 times of some cold & stomach virus in total. I am fine with those virus. |
Your child will be just as likely to catch COVID as they are to catch any other cold or stomach virus when daycares re open, maybe even more likely because it is so much more contagious. |
You do realize that there will be a risk of catching covid for the foreseeable future right? I would not depend on the administration’s prediction of a vaccine in January. Are you really prepared to keep your child home until then? |
