Our daycare is adjacent to a major teaching hospital and has been open for essential workers. No cases reported. We sent DC back on Monday and will pull her out if local COVID cases occur (we are not in the DC area). |
Essential workers in healthcare right now honestly are under some of the strictest precautions compared to say, the people you interact with at your weekly grocery store trip. Also, they are extremely well versed on this virus and more likely to be taking other precautions and properly social distancing outside of work requirements. I suspect there will be some cases when we all return to daycare and school, obviously.... especially since I’ve seen full on freaking multi-family front yard block parties taking place in my daycare’s neighborhood. But — RSV etc. is also a risk at daycare and a much greater health risk statistically for young kids. We don’t have high risk family members living at our house like some people do. I’m torn on what to do. |
I'm very curious about this as well. I have 2 friends who are still sending their kid to daycare even though they aren't essential employees, they are working from home and it's hard to get work done with a toddler around. I get it, but I wouldn't make the same decision. |
They obviously qualify as essential workers; otherwise they wouldn’t be allowed to send their kid. So maybe don’t judge. |
Not true depending on where located. In VA, they are prioritizing children of essential workers first. Then if there are spaces, you can send your kid. |
Don't judge. They may have been told that they cannot telework with a child at home (I know someone who is in this situation). At my company, it is up to your manager to decide whether you can work with kids at home and whether you can work any sort of different/odd schedule. Some managers don't care and some do. |
Yep. Also they could have something else going on. My husband has MS, which means he needs proper sleep and exercise to keep the episodes at bay. He cannot afford to work crazy hours or not exercise because he’s trying to juggle work and a toddler. Oh — stress can also prompt episodes. I can’t telework, so am going into the office. You don’t know everything else people are dealing with. |
