Despite the hoopla, judge smacks down US women's soccer team

Anonymous
How embarrassing, a judge has rightfully dealt a major blow to the USWNT who claimed that they were being paid unfairly. Gee, who'd ever though that you'd have to live up to the contracts that you fairly negotiated and signed. I remember back when there was such a big stink about the pay discrepancy between the men's and women's teams, yet it came to light how radically different the men's vs. women's contracts were, and how different men's vs. women's soccer is. Sick and tired of entities and people demanding special treatment because they have some sort of special identity that supposedly grants them bonus points. Um, no, how about you live up to the contract you negotiated and signed in the first place? Stop blaming your crappy negotiating tactics and negotiators on the men's team. The women also get a massive amount of perks and other special benefits on the side that go completely ignored in these debates (ahem, like healthcare for women an no healthcare for men). Glad this judge has the common sense to make the women's team live up to the contract they willingly signed under no duress. Sorry, but having a vagina doesn't magically grant you the ability to weasel your way out of a contract you legally signed. Live up to what you signed. End of story.

I support this decision. I also support the players renegotiating their contracts when it is due for renewal.

I agree, OP. This woman is sick and tired of other women expecting preferential treatment due solely to their gender.

Agree. It’s not the people you negotiate against that are at fault if the deal is bad for your side...it’s our negotiating team. Get better negotiators. Go get a better contract when you have the ability to. Stick to your guns and commit to that.

I thought Phyllis Schlafly was in her lead-lined coffin with a stake through her chest.

Did you see them on 60 minutes several months ago? I was so embarrassed for them! They simply don't bring home the bacon like the men do.

Good! This is the whinies "team snowflake" on the national level ever.

Meh.
Sure they need to honor the current contract and then renegotiate...
But
Women and their work have been intrinsically undervalued for all of history. The idea of parity is new, and will take decades to correct. I don’t blame any women for becoming infuriated at the injustice of that.

That has nothing to do with this case. They were a bunch of whiny brats trying to renegotiate their contracts through the media with deceitful tactics. Such a nasty, entitled lot.

Didn't they have the opportunity to negotiate the same contract as the men? And, chose not to do so?

Kind of significant statement from the judge. From the link above:

"The history of negotiations between the parties demonstrates that the WNT rejected an offer to be paid under the same pay-to-play structure as the MNT, and the WNT was willing to forgo higher bonuses for benefits, such as greater base compensation and the guarantee of a higher number of contracted players.

"Accordingly, plaintiffs cannot now retroactively deem their CBA worse than the MNT CBA by reference to what they would have made had they been paid under the MNT's pay-to-play terms structure when they themselves rejected such a structure."

I guess there success made them think they could ignore the contract. They should rethink their own position.

They shouldn't have asked for all of the perks and more salary then. Don't sign the contracts in the first place if you're unhappy with the deal.

They absolutely need better contracts. Winners deserve bonuses.

Is that you, Donnie?

I agree with the judge. But the abusive, gloating tone of this thread dispels any illusions that cons care about women.

Glad to see this decision.
