I think one of the hardest parts of all of this is the discrepancy. ”let it go”...”you do you”...”why do you care?”
We are out on daily hikes and in town excursions, which some people HATE and I get told to stay home. I have friends who have not left their house/yard in 50 days. Meanwhile, my cousin just posted an IG video of her kids having tennis lessons. I’m TIRED of all of this. |
And? A person playing tennis doesn’t necessarily pose any graver threat to others than someone hiking. |
Unless they are playing on their private court with household members, the virus begs to differ. |
Her kids are playing each other, holding their own rackets, sharing balls, etc. The coach is nearby. What’s the issue? |
Is it their own court? Does the coach touch anything, like the door handle of the court? |
I probably would as coach can stay 10+ feet away or on the other side of the court. Music lessons, like we have we do online as too close contact otherwise. |
As long as they’re not standing close and talking and using they’re good hand hygiene, they’re fine. Tennis allows for significant distancing. |
Omfg these spoiled brats are having lessons while lower ranked professionals are struggling on the tennis tour because they are quarantined. Signed, a former collegiate player who still follows tennis daily. Look it up....seriously |
I agree. I actually like seeing normal life creep back in small ways. I support ways we can support those that want to work (tennis coach here) and still maintain safe distances. This seems like a win/win to me. |
Sounds pretty low risk to me. |
OP here. They haven’t changed. They’ve been having play dates, neighbors over, shopping, etc. I’m all for small doses of normalcy. I should’ve lead with that: their lives haven’t changed, except for school. |
Yep, I’m being very careful. If the players and everyone touching the ball are members of the same household and the coach is several feet away, I think this is reasonable. Even more reasonable if the coach is also a member of the household. |
Not cool. The tennis courts have been locked in my community for this very reason.
Yeah, it’s low-risk for just one family to be there. But it wouldn’t be good for 4-5 families to be using all the courts. Since other families are following the rules and staying away, why the F can’t your cousin? |
OP, you may have some legit gripes about your family member, but tennis is really a sport that allows for physical distancing. Seems safer to me than walking on a trail and having a runner come huffing by, 2 feet away.
Also, where I live our private court just opened back up. They have lots of rules in place (courts are reserved in advance, no loitering before or after your time, and everyone stays 6 feet apart, even household contacts, because that's the easiest way for them to enforce it, which they are doing). |
Who cares |
