| Does anyone know when Haycock will get a new principal. The current principal's misdemeanor case is scheduled at the Fairfax courts for June but given the pandemic, this date will likely move out. He will most likely face a fine, but doubt he will get jail time. Fabio has said nothing about a replacement for Haycock that I'm aware of, but how long can this school go without a full time Principal? Why hasn't FCPS just made a call regarding Bloom and started a new search for the next academic year for a Principal? Even if Bloom is able to get off without jail time, it's not like he will be accepted into the Haycock community after this, so I really don't understand why the County is waiting to take proper steps to fulfill the position. I have had several interactions with Augie, and as great as he is, it just feels like he really doesn't want to be doing this any longer. It's been a long stretch of "pinch hitting" post retirement, and I don't really blame him. |
| So there’s an experienced interim principal but you just don’t think he’s appropriately enthusiastic? LOL. I think FCPS has bigger fish to fry right now. I would expect him to be around all next school year. |
| You get that the pandemic is probably slowing down any principal search process, right? |
Thank you. Glad to know there is someone with a sense of reason here. |
| I think he is doing a great job and am thankful to have him. I hope he remains principal next year to help the school and students through what pandemic challenges may come. |
| different school but our interim principal just got the permanent slot. I think it makes sense since FCPS has much bigger things to worry about right now. |
| That hasn't been my experience with the interim principal. He loves the kids and community - he's even been emailing the families a picture of their kid's birthday pencil, to let them know it will be waiting for them when the students return. He's always smiling and professional. I'm not sure where you get that he's over his job and worn out. lol |
He is always smiling! Mr. Bloom rubbed me the wrong way before I found out what happened. He didn’t smile much and seemed very business professional, rather than like someone working in a human service field. He just wasn’t warm. Maybe he was busy hiding a secret- that he left his old school because he was not report child abuse there. Who knows. But Augie is professional and warm which I think make for a good principal. |
| Haycock is so lucky to have the interim principal! |
What was the misdemeanor case? What did he do? |
https://www.dcurbanmom.com/jforum/posts/list/819163.page Start with posts from September when he went on leave. Then December when he was indicted. OR, in a nutshell: http://www.fairfaxtimes.com/articles/grand-jury-indicts-former-fcps-staff-school-principal/article_de68e874-2365-11ea-a23d-8b216b9df2d1.html |
| I don't think the particular failure-to-report charge against Bloom could lead to more than a fine, but people like to exaggerate. Do agree his days at Haycock are over but, as long as Augie continues to do a good job, Zuluaga has no incentive to treat a permanent replacement as a priority with all the other pandemic-related challenges. |
|
I mean at some point I do think that Augie wants to actually retire. I don't think he's signed on to be the 'permanent' replacement for Haycock. And, while I think he is awesome, much friendlier than either Bloom or Donnelly, I do think he isn't all that engaged with the day-to-day of running the school. Don't get me wrong, we love him, but I think Haycock desperately needs FULL TIME leadership. I just don't understand why they wouldn't promote Reeder or Boyd to the position. I think either one could do a great job. They are clearly familiar with the expectations of the Haycock community, so think it wouldn't be all that challenging for them. [Unless, of course, they aren't interested in it.]
I know FCPS has bigger fish to fry, but that doesn't mean the smaller things should just be forgotten. It would be nice to know what's going on. And, sorry, but in all honesty, I don't think there is great communication going on. |
I think the bigger issue is how much longer Augie is willing to be there. He's probably ready to ride off into the sunset. I hope he sticks around for a few more years though... |
| What's the Haycock distance learning schedule? Just curious. |
