What do you pay for daycare during Corona?

Now the daycares are closed because of the Corona crisis, what do you have to pay? How many discount do you get? Please include the name of the daycare.

We have to pay 33% of the tuition (Children in the Shoe, Bethesda)

We paid full tuition for March and April. Nothing for May. Anything beyond that has not been announced.

In fairness, this is starting in May. April was optional and it sounds like there was a wide variation among what parents did.

Having said that, I am curious how parents react. I didn’t attend any of the zoom meetings yesterday, but hope to do so today.

I don’t know if parents will go for it, particularly for parents in the preschool classes.

Full amount for March, even though there were no classes the last 2 weeks.

Nothing for April or May.

All staff is laid off starting tomorrow.

Will your daycares be reopening once this is over? Do you think there will be a daycare shortage? What a headache.

Wonders (Bethesda and Chevy Chase) isn’t charging tuition. They are asking for donations (and are a nonprofit, so donations can be written off taxes).

We are at an MCCA center and I rather wish they just did something like this. March had already been paid, April and onward was optional. We paid for April but we were in the minority based on a summary that was sent. I think some parents balked because the funds were all going in one pot for the 10(?) centers rather than to the one you are enrolled at. Not really sure what to do as it takes at least some collective mass of people paying to make a difference, and I think they have one of those PPP loans now. Plus I expect we will need to hire a nanny at some point.

I have a nanny that we've been paying full time. It kind of sucks because we're right at 200k so we won't get the stimulus and also the wage help isn't for us either. She deserves it though so we cut back elsewhere and dipped into savings.

Are both of you still working? Wondering why you have to dip into savings. If you are not working, I totally get why you have to dip into savings.

Goddard School in Gaithersburg.

We pay nothing because we are both essential workers.

For everyone else there are 3 options, effective through the end of May:

- Pay nothing for May and save your kid's spot, but no access to distance learning.

- Pay $500 for some distance learning.

- Pay $1,000 for more extensive distance learning

- Pay full tuition and receive a 25% discount for September and no tuition increases for the 2020-2021 school year

Salary cuts! A lot of us still working had big salary cuts.

Ah, yes, you are right! You sound like a good employer.

For March - we paid full tuition.
For April - we were given 3 options: pay full tuition for distance learning (no tuition increase for next year), pay 50% for distance learning, or withdraw with no penalty. We did option 1.
For May - we were given 2 options: $500 for distance learning or withdraw with no penalty. We chose the first option.

This is at Georgetown Hill. We have two kids there, and in hindsight, we probably should have withdraw. We wanted to support the school, and they applied for the small business loan as well. There were a lot of conversations at that time about paying teachers, but even if they get laid off, they are probably better off collecting unemployment than actually getting paid by the school.

10% discount, in-home daycare in VA. The daycare is still open although I think there are a few other families keeping the kids at home.

You might get some stimulus based on your children. Worth checking on the irs website.
