When you speak of m/c, how many weeks?

Anonymous
I know a lot of posts reference m/c, which I am sorry for your losses. What I am wondering is how early are these m/c's? We just had an u/s at 8 weeks with a strong hb but the fear of m/c still is there for me. My friend had a missed m/c at 9weeks. One week earlier everything was fine so I am very worried about the same.

I just recently had a miscarriage at 9 weeks... but the doctors knew something was wrong (based on u/s) at 6 1/2 weeks. We waited it out as things started to look hopeful, but it wasn't in the cards. If things are looking good at 8 weeks, that's a good sign!

We found out at 11 weeks. Baby had stopped developing at 7-8 weeks.
Good luck with your pregnancy!

Same exact thing when I miscarried last year except I was about a week farther along. We knew at the first u/s that there was something wrong with the gestational sac, but were hoping for the best. At around 10 weeks, another u/s confirmed a m/c.

Your chances of miscarriage really do decrease if you have a u/s that shows all is well (strong heartbeat, no problems with sac, etc.).

I m/c at 12 1/2 weeks and had a healthy initial ultrasound and heard the heartbeat the week before. I went for the high-def. u/s and there was no heartbeat. I think this is pretty unusual. Usually things are okay if you have had a good first u/s. Fluky things happen, but most pregnancies are fine once you have a strong heartbeat.

Good luck!

My miscarriage was discovered at 8 weeks. We had gotten a heartbeat at 6w5d, but it was a little low. Growth was also a couple of days behind. Doc was hopeful, but heartbeat was gone at 8w.

My missed miscarriage was diagnosed at 11.5 weeks, after having a good ultrasound and seeing a healthy heartbeat at 8 wks. I hear that your chances of m/c go down significantly after seeing the heartbeat, but that wasn't the case for us.

Your worry is perfectly understandable, but the odds are in your favor. Congrats and best wishes to you!

OP here, again sorry for your losses and thank you for sharing your experiences. I have another u/s in 3 weeks so hoping for the best.

PP, did your doctor tell you what they think happened?

This is pretty much what happened to us too, and I think it's more common than we realize. Yes seeing the HB drops the risk WAY down, but I think it's still somewhere around 4%, so on the order of 1:20.

Of course - that means your odds of everything going RIGHT are still something like 96%!

Good luck OP, and i know how nerve wracking that early waiting is.

I don't know why I miscarried, because it was my first m/c (and because they are so common) the dr did not order a pathology report after my d&c. My dr. said they rarely do any testing until your 3rd m/c or so. Most are caused by chromosomal abnormalities though if you have multiple m/c it could be the result of a blood clotting disorder or thyroid condition.

There isn't really anything you can do to prevent it as far as I know, so try not to worry too much. I hope the next three weeks go fast for you. Many women lose pregnancy symptoms when they miscarry, so if you are feeling nauseous, sleepy, gassy, etc- you can at least take comfort in knowing everything is probably going okay. But don't let a lack of symptoms drive you crazy either, I had no morning sickness with my m/c or my healthy pregnancy so that isn't always a good indicator.

This time: 8w u/s showed no hb, baby appears to have stopped growing at 6.5wks. Started bleeding at about 9w.

First time: 7w u/s, but no one said anything one way or the other. Started bleeding at 7-8wks.

In between, healthy baby girl. In all three, my progesterone #s were low. Beta was not strong (but still on the charts) for the m/cs. Beta was strong and stayed strong for the healthy preg.

I keep hearing that miscarriage rate drops significantly after a heartbeat is detected, but I asked my doctor about the statistics and she said that the odds of miscarrying were almost the same. I also asked my friend in residency (OB-GYN) and she wasn't comfortable stating that the risk is a lot lower. Both said I had to get through 12 weeks.

Eight weeks and never heard heartbate as I miscarried before first appointment.

I am in the same boat with several of the PPs -- saw the heartbeat at 8 weeks, went in for u/s at 11 weeks and no heartbreak. Had a d&c two days later. That was last week, and I am still reeling. It's so hard.
