Top High Schools in VA 2020 - US News

Anonymous
1. TJ (FCPS)
2. Langley (FCPS)
3. McLean (FCPS)
4. Marshall (FCPS)
5. Madison (FCPS)
6. Woodson (FCPS)
7. West Springfield (FCPS)
8. Chantilly (FCPS)
9. Broad Run (LCPS)
10. Open High (Richmond)

No surprises, other than Oakton dropping to #11 and Broad Run being the top ranked school from Loudoun rather than Briar Woods or Rock Ridge. Marshall is higher than Madison now because it got permission from FCPS to automatically enroll most students in IB English junior year. That boosts its "College Readiness" score (a key input into the US News methodology) to highest in FCPS behind TJ, but it's ranked fourth because of a lower graduation rate than Langley and McLean.

Yorktown is #14.

I'm surprised George Mason did not even make the top 10.

Of the 15 LCPS high schools, 13 are in the top 72, then there's Tuscarora (107), Potomac Falls (109) and Park View (128).

Park View, I can understand but why the big gap between PFHS and the rest? I don't understand it.

Seriously shocked by the fact that Dominion, PF and PV are within a few miles of each other in Sterling but Dominion kicks PF's a$$. How are those two that different?

What do you consider high SES? Are you basing it all on the number of FARMS?

Granted, Langley is high SES, but some of those other schools have a great mix of economic diversity. I don't consider 20% to be low FARMS, by the way. Or, 18%.

There is a difference b/t High SES (i.e. wealthy), and a high percentage of kids who aren't FARMS (i.e. poor).

Some people think you can only be living in poverty or driving a new Tesla to school.

Has anyone heard of the middle? or upper middle? Not being FARMS =/= "high SES."

I think you paint too stark a contrast when you assume that kids who don't get free meals are High Socio-Economic Status.

What the hell happened to Oakton? Wasn't it always like #5 or 6?
