success story advice: consult with multiple doctors, including perinatologists

Anonymous
My heart goes out to everyone hoping for a little one.
Success story here. After 4 years of heartache, multiple miscarriages, and times that tested our strength and our love, we had our beautiful little boy last week. I've never felt so blessed.

My advice to couples: See multiple doctors and trust your "gut." In major metro areas, there are too many options to settle.

Also, see a perinatologist (aka maternal-fetal medicine doctor). See multiple perinatologists! We saw a particular doctor on a recommendation from an amazing fertility nurse (based on her own experience) and he shed some light that may have been the key to a successful birth (I say "may have" because we don't know the exact cause of our previous losses).

This might not be relevant to everyone, but for some couples it comes down to leaving no stone un-turned. Good luck to all--It's a long journey!

OP here, one thing to clarify: try and see the maternal-fetal medicine doctor before or shortly after conceiving (whether naturally or via fertility process). They may have input that can help sustain the pregnancy.

That’s great news, OP. However many people do see multiple experts and many others cannot afford to. And it may still not end up working out for some.

I am in a similar boat and hadn't considered this. OP is there a perinatologist that you recommend, assuming you are in the DMV? Congrats on sticking it out and your eventual success.

I’m not OP but I concur with their advice. I saw dr. Pinckert at greater Washington maternal fetal medicine.

Absolutely love Dr. Pinckert.
