There are rumors going around that summer camps may not be able to operate this summer if we are still in social distancing mode. Wondering how people will handle that in terms of childcare. DH and I work FT and I would have to imagine that our offices will be back open by then and we will be required to go back (neither of us really works from home much in normal circumstances). During the school year we typically use a mix of aftercare and a part time sitter who takes the kids to other activities. Kids are currently in K and 3rd so they would need full time care. Do I have to hire a nanny or is there another option?
Has anyone else started thinking about this? |
If there is still such social distancing that there's no camp, I think we'll still be working from home. |
Cry |
Maybe there will be a “massive uptick” in 1970s style childhoods? Lol |
My kids will be so disappointed. Girl Scout camp is the highlight of their summer! |
This. And we will continue doing what we do now - which will be awful, but what choice will we have? |
hi OP, I would think if there will be no school AND no summer camps during the Summer, people will have to continue to work from home. Not everyone can afford to hire a full-time sitter and employers know that. |
We'll just keep using our nanny. It won't be a big change from now. |
We will continue exactly as we are now. |
I fear it will be the summer of screens ![]() |
There will not be summer camps.
Only after a vaccine will all the nice to haves return. School will, but at some new weird shift model of distance learning and in school |
It's amazing how many people lose their critical thinking skills in an atypical situation. No camps, means physical distancing measures still in place, which means telework is still encouraged as much as possible. Same situation as now. But actually by summer we'll probably see a gradual relaxing of the distancing rules. |
I would look for a college student stat. |
1970s childhoods included massive amounts of playing outside for hours on end, summer camps in the ... summer. not sure how that corresponds with The Virus and continued social distancing. |
Economic hardship for so many parents of no camps. I am furloughed, not able to work at home, but when I do get called back to work in May I won’t have funds to pay a nanny after not having worked for 2 months.
I think at least the sports clubs and karate schools will reopen to offer some sort of camp. I had already registered and paid for a full summers worth of camps at county facilities so if the schools or rec centers remain closed, I hope I get all my money back quickly. |
