And now I'm freaked out. My son has a 103 fever and no other symptoms except feeling a little tired. Does he have it!?
We've been isolating except for some grocery trips for 3 weeks except my husband has to go into the office sometimes, so I suppose he may have brought it home despite trying to be careful. |
call the doctor |
Give him Tylenol and call your pediatrician. |
How old? Does he usually get fevers? 103 is pretty high.
Some kids get fevers a lot and some don't. Be vigilant and I would call your doctor and set up a televisit if the fever lasts into tomorrow. |
Any other symptoms?
|
Yep. We just got a positive test for my 12 y/o. The only symptom was fever max 101.2 for 48 hours. How old is the child? Both the pediatrician and my child told me the test is incredibly painful. |
Have you been interacting with people or someone in your group/family? Hope it’s nothing, op. |
4 years old. I know what you mean -- my other child always gets high fevers when she gets sick, but my son usually doesn't. I gave him Motrin, and it brought it down. I'll call the doctor in the morning. |
OP here. Why did they decide to test your child? I assumed mine wouldn't be tested even if I went in. Is there any benefit to being tested since we're isolating anyway? Hate to put him through that! |
Obviously call your pediatrician, go to urgent care, or a hospital nurse line.
Get off DCUM and seek actual medical attention. Now. |
You'd go to urgent care? I wouldn't go to urgent care for a fever that comes down with motrin even in normal times, but definitely not now. I wouldn't want to expose anyone else or be exposed. If I call the ped at night I just get the nurse advice line, which I have not once found useful. That's my least favorite thing about our ped practice. I did call my doctor aunt though, who recommended Motrin and fluids. |
Kaiser won’t test my teen with fever and vomiting. Did not meet criteria. She has only taken walkS locally. We have worn masks to store and been isolating. Crazy! |
My pediatric practice has two physicians. I get a call back from one of them within minutes. The Anne Arundel County Medical Center nurse line has also always been tremendously helpful. |
NP. If it were me, I would wait and call in the morning. With just a fever and no other symptoms, and treating fever with motrin, I think it is fine to wait. |
(Genuinely asking) how do you think your son got infected? Play dates, grocery store, do you or your spouse do essential work? |
