| We contacted a school and declined a spot today. However, my friend said waitlist still won’t show movement until after May 27th. Is that true? |
My DC’s number has gotten worse for 1 school so it’s definitely moving in at least 1 direction

It depends what the school does. It's typical to wait until the enrollment deadline, then take a look at enrollments and decide how to proceed. This ensures that they have the full picture of siblings of enrolled students and can make decisions about how many seats they actually want to have for the year.
With the enrollment deadline super late this year, schools may move earlier, espcially if they have a lot of declines, or if it is to admit siblings of kids who have enrolled l. So you may see it move. But I wouldn't expect anything until May 1. That said, if someone goes into MySchoolDC and removes themself from a waiting list, I think that change would be visible. |
How do you remove yourself from the waitlist? |
You should be able to do it in myschooldc. |
The option to remove yourself is not there. I wonder if it will be added after the enrollment deadline? |
| I just got offers from Sela for both kids, so lists are starting to move! |
| I just got an offer from the waitlist at a not so popular charter so some waitlist are moving. |
Did your number also move on Myschool DC? I am waitlisted at a somewhat popular charter (but not like top 10) and my number hasn't moved in either direction. |
Yes. It shows waitlist offer. |
Do you mind sharing which school? I have low numbers for a few unpopular schools and I'm curious to see how soon we will get an offer. |
| Does the waitlist end when the 21/22 school year starts or is it still possible to get a waitlist spot during the school year? |
Waitlists continue to move (sometimes quite quickly) until "count day" (in early October). So it's quite common to start at one school and get a waitlist offer even a few weeks in. There are some schools that will offer off the waitlist after count day, but they are few and far between. |
| Very helpful! THANK YOU |
| Somewhat related question. Just got offer(s) from a school we didnt expect to get into. Two kids currently at DC charter, both got offers at DCPS. However, one child was moved up a grade in his charter school after our lottery app. Our lottery application and spots are for the old grade. Anyone with advice on this, will the new school (DCPS) honor something the DC charter did? I assume it depends on available spots but curious if there are other factors. |
