However, one child was moved up a grade in his charter school after our lottery app. Our lottery application and spots are for the old grade. Anyone with advice on this, will the new school (DCPS) honor something the DC charter did? I assume it depends on available spots but curious if there are other factors.

Huh? You mean your charter was going to allow your kid to skip a grade? I don't think DCPS will automatically just accept that but your best bet it to talk to the principal. Or do you mean you filled out the application wrong and lotteried for the grade your child was currently in?

Is this something you arranged with the charter, or did it just happen in the app?

Clarification: lottery application for both kids was based on intended grade next fall for each child. Post lottery application, current school decided one child was okay with moving up one grade next fall. Now have offer from new school for both children but that offer is based on the old grade for one child. Assume best to speak with principal.

Is the kid who was "okay" with moving up one grade skipping a grade or you're just no longer redshirting/holding them back? I do not think a DCPS, in general, is likely to let a kid skip a grade on a charter's say so, particularly if you lotteried for the "wrong" grade. However, if you were intending to hold back your kid and then didn't, DCPS *might* oblige... if there are spots available in that year. You really need to call ASAP though. If by misrepresenting the grade your kid would enter, you put your kid in an entry year vs. not an entry year, expect to be met with some skepticism that you weren't doing to advantage yourself in the lottery though.
