ECNL forcing Brave & Union Partnership

Anonymous
Everyone wants the best players and coaches to be a part of this
Some coaches in McLean have turned down the offer
We want the best teams on the boys in McLean to coach those teams
Ask your coaches why they don’t want to

Why?
Probably feel no different than the McLean-Union girls — same mix of reactions for all.

I would expect brave girls to be much more worried about being cut

No one is getting cut. The roster size will be big.

Big roster sizes year 1 for 2011s and older makes sense. Allows folks to then self-select out the following year.
The 2012s who knows but there is a lot of kids in that age group across all three feeder programs who are getting screwed.

Seriously? Super Y?

Who cares, it's summer soccer.

Getting screwed? You paid for a club that couldn’t manage itself. Take some responsibility or at least have some awareness with what’s going on. Furthermore an ECNL roster spot is not your right. So not sure how you are getting screwed? You pay, which means you can always walk away

In his opinion, the only “rough” players in HS are the ones who’ve played in those leagues…And, in his view, if you think any part of youth soccer is rough, try playing against some college or pro players sometime!

Agree!! My Senior played HS sophomore year and MLSNext ever since. Currently at U18/19 with speed of play and physicality---playing academy teams--it's crazy. Incredibly physical. BUT--he's never been injured in those games.

When he got injured and put him out a year? HS soccer. Why? You are much more at risk for injury when you play with kids w/out talent. They chop. They have zero body awareness, etc.

Oh--I still laugh at a scrimmage with college players and one kid was rolling around on the ground saying 'foul' and the college kid looked at him and said 'college rules'. My son loved that.

Union parents are just as worried about their girls being cut, or worse, their team getting worse. And that's not a jab at the Brave girls -- it's a critique of how hastily and sloppily this merger was put together and a fear that the top Brave and Union girls will go elsewhere. The clubs don't own these kids and they have choices.

Where are they going? There are only so many clubs with open spots that are a reasonable distance.

Sorry people are dealing with this. It's really unfortunate for the kids.

You're saying a 15 year old playing against men finds it rough?
What would be other expectations?

As for HS, when you have non-skilled players past puberty lacking coordination being told to be physical and aggressive by unqualified coaches, you get "rough"

Say the top 2-4 girls from Union and Brave teams find spots somewhere else because they’re easily good enough to be picked up by another team. They take the spots of “weaker” players at other clubs because their parents are sick of all the merger BS. (Did MYS learn nothing from the failed SYC partnership?) That does not leave strong teams at FXU.
