This is from Hogan's deputy communications director. So just a head's up that our preschools that are still charging tuition (the vast majority of them, it seems) could be told to stop doing so. |
Good. It shouldn't be allowed.
|
Then they’ll also have to look into private k-12 schools offering online learning that are charging tuition. |
their argument would be that "technically" you'd be getting something (i.e., online learning) for your tuition. The preschool parents are paying $ and receiving nothing in return. |
Yep, and no one can reasonably make the argument that any videos the preschool post, or Zoom meetings they do, as nice as they are, replace the childcare preschools provide. |
Online schooling is still a service for which there typically is a charge. |
True. However, they should at least be required to only charge a portion of the tuition, since the online learning is certainly not equivalent to what these parents were paying for before. |
Online schooling for K-12 is still providing a service, not to mention there is a legal requirement that children complete K and up, unlike preschool. I do know some schools are providing decent distance learning for PK3 and PK4 though. |
I agree, and it should be an opt-in for parents who want it. |
The people who are still paying preschool tuition are doing so to reserve their spots for next year. |
Give me a break |
This is a bad situation all around. I expect many many daycares to close. |
No service, no tuition. Online service, reduced tuition. Previous threads with posters urging full payment were probably planted by preschool directors or staff. Same for all the threads urging people to get take-out. |
Look at the tweet I posted. Looks like MD's initial take is that preschools shouldn't be charging tuition to retain spots. I expect official guidance to come out soon, if I had to take a guess. |
Then they should ask for donations. Not charge for a service they aren't providing and threaten to take people's spots away. |
