COVID car deals right now

Anonymous
I just saw a Jeep commercial and they sounded pretty desperate for sales: 84 months 0% APR, no payments for first 90 days, online shopping, and free delivery of car to your home.

This got me thinking that this must be absolutely an amazing time to buy a new car right now. Are people seeing incredible deals?

Any luck with Tesla or Lexus?

Its only for certain cars and there are rarely great deals on some Jeeps...just bought one. I cannot imagine there will be huge deals given the manufacturing plants shut down. Telsa has people buying regardless.

That’s insane! Wow. I wish I wanted a Jeep.

Give it time. This isn’t going away anytime soon.

I want to see if they cut prices more or offer cash back or rebates. No interest is great but to be expected, I think. I also think most dealerships offered online shopping and delivery (to some extent), even before covid, they just didn't advertise that option.

Just wait. Tip of iceberg.

Tesla is backordered for months, don't expect any deals there. Lexus might be offering some. Avoid Pohanka in Chantilly IME. You can also do all your negotiating over the phone ahead of going in -- these days maybe they can even fax you the paperwork, who knows.

We bought a car (one year old used with 7k miles) about a month ago, just before things got really crazy locally. DH actually negotiated the whole agreement via text message (busy at work, couldn't be going back and forth on the phone). Got them down a few grand from their internet price and negotiated in things we wanted, I locked in a 2.19% APR separately through USAA, then we went and picked up the car that night. Spent less than an hour in a totally empty dealership since it was closing time, signed all the paperwork that was already all set up, and drove home in our new car.

It's a good approach given the way things are right now. You just have to be both demonstrably serious about being ready to buy the car, and also 100% willing to walk away (even better if you tell them there's another car at another dealership you're also negotiating with) if they don't agree to the terms you want.

No payments for 90 days is no favor.

I do like 0% financing.

Wait until Q3/Q4, that's when the real crazy good deals start to come in as dealers become desperate.

I suspect this will be the case, and will wait to get a good deal.

I hope this is not the case, my portfolio will be in shit-shape if things are that bad..
