Yes-- interested in any feedback re independent school consultants in general. We did not use one, applied to 4 big name schools in a kind of naive way... no connections, no letters, no rich pals, kids with test scores >90%.... waitlisted everywhere. And these are adorable, charming, amazing kids. And we're nice, non-insane, interesting people. Wondering, if we try again next year, if the lesson here is that it's just luck of the draw and we should apply more widely? or if there is maybe some benefit to using a consultant?

THERE IS NO BENEFIT TO USING A CONSULTANT. This forum has a wealth of information. I promise you the consultants know far less than the collective wisdom and experience on this board.
Anonymous
Yes, but do they act as advocates for your child? Do the consultant's have an "in" with some schools?
Anonymous
No, they do not advocate. Georgia Irvin meets with your child for about 45 min and then knows it all and writes a letter on behalf of your child. Others will meet with your child for even less time and either call or write the school. They DO NOT advocate for your child like you would because they have to protect their own backs. Think preschool director: If given the choice between Johnny and Jane and EC is on the phone with Margaret or Annie, EC will say well I think Johnny is the stronger applicant.

EC will NOT give you any information you can't find for yourself. Save the money and use it to pay your deposit.

21:11 here. Typo - not 45 min, more like 20 min.

All written and verbal communication between EC and admissions offices is confidential. EC will not tell you anything.

They will give you a list of suggested schools to go tour and then apply. You can do this without anyone's help.

I'm not the OP, but I think we're drifting away from what the OP asked. All the PPs may be right that Georgia Irvin and other consultants don't do a whole lot, but are their clients getting in?

We used Georgia - she actually spends about 1-1.5 hours with your child and gets a good understanding on how the schools will see your child. She does advocate and we got into all the scholools we applied to. Well worth the money IMO.

If you don't mind sharing, which schools did you apply to?

Lets just say they were all top schools always mentioned on this board. She spends far more time on her clients than yesterday's 20.55 pp implied. I found her to be of good value to us through out the aplication process.

PP, this anonymous poster truly values your contributions to the forum. Welcome back.

Any other takers?

I wouldn't be surprised if 9:53 is Georgia herself.
