Ordering books off eBay

With the libraries closed, and school out for summer, we need books. We are readers. We read a lot. And I'm not against re-reading, but fresh books would be nice.

I'm also trying to reign in my Amazon. We just don't have money for large book orders. But I could get a lot from Ebay. So much more cost effective.

Is this not a good idea, in today's situation?

I think it's fine. Leave them in the delivered boxes for 3-5 days or so. Wipe down individual books when you open the boxes if you really want to be careful.

I'd be more worried about bed bugs than covid19

Not sure what you mean by cost effective. Have you compared EBay prices with prices for third party sellers on Amazon? And “third party” includes professional booksellers such as Powell’s. Also, many eBay and Amazon marketplace sellers discount the shipping when you make multiple purchases from them. Local booksellers such as Loyalty, Kramerbooks and Politics and Prose are also doing a lot of special promotions as they struggle through this current crisis — so it could be worth checking them out as well. I’ve been letting my packages sit a few days and spraying them indirectly with Lysol. I’ve no idea if this actually helps, but it does make me feel better.

No thank you

You can check out tons of e-books online through the library for free and read them in the kindle app. Much easier and no exposure.

Good god it’s fine. Books don’t carry diseases the way some of you nuts say. Google it, it’s fine.

I buy usedbooks on Amazon. Some cost 10 cents plus $3.99 shipping. They come right to my mailbox. Let them sit, wile them down, whatever. The risk is low. Covid19 only survives three days on plastic, and that's if it's not exposed to sunlight or something else that degrades it. It takes a few days for the package to get to you so even if the person handling the books has covid19, the bugs would be dead by the time the books reach you.

Should say wipe them down
