So, kids are getting bored with the soccer app their club has them doing. I see a handful of trainers in the area still advertising personal training sessions or small group training sessions. Would you do it? 1 trainer, 1 kid . . . generally 6 feet apart? Crazy to even consider?
|
| Yes it is crazy. |
| I would think that scenario is fine. |
| Nope. |
| Sure |
Originally I agreed with you. Then the scenario was posed to me like this: If my daughter gets sick and needs to be taken to the hospital. I do NOT get to stay with her. She is on her own to fight this without her parents. As scary as it would be for her with her parents there, imagine how scary it would be alone. That idea alone has changed my opinion, and she will be training online (her trainer is offering online small group sessions via zoom) or not training at all. |

No.
There are plenty of trialing videos, online lessons, websites and other materials to conduct your own family training session. Your kids can also play against each other easily enough. Kids don’t keep six feet apart. They naturally drift toward one another to talk and chat. |
A calculated risk for sure, but we are doing it. 1 on 1 with the same trainer is less risk than taking a walk outside amongst strangers. |
As someone with a family member with covid, I can say you are selfish as F*CK. Yes, you might not get sick. You probably won’t. But god only know who you’ll spread it to without even realizing it. |
I don't know if it's less risk but, like walking outside among strangers, it should certainly be a manageable one. |
The guideline is groups < 10. The goal is minimizing risk. Do you buy groceries? More dangerous. Do you buy fast food? More dangerous. |
| This sounds really stupid. With kids having all this free time now, they spend hours bouncing and kicking the ball... why do kids need private training if they won’t be able to play a game any time soon? I think one of the reasons why the Olympics were canceled was because athletes are unable to practice. |
| In theory it should be okay but its problematic. Fields are hard to find. They have closed the fields in many places. The few that are open are crowded and people are not Social distancing. They will at some point start fining people who are in closed areas. Also how many other kids is the trainer training? |
I am sorry you have a family member with Covid. But a large portion of the population will get this sooner or later and you would be unreasonably optimistic to think otherwise. The objective now is to slow it down so we manage the treatment. But holing up for months does nothing to defeat the virus. it will be there when we climb back outside and we will go through all these questions again. As selfish as it is to frolic during Spring Break, it is arguably selfish to demean or disregard millions of other people and their lives by telling them they should simply take a monthly check from the government or deliver food until all this clears. And how will we pay the trillions of dollars in debt that we will accumulate? Who is going to buy the government debt? Where are state and local governments getting revenue to provide services? If you can afford to stay isolated, please feel free to do so. But recognize that others have a different view and may not have the ability to do this for a year, or whatever period you think is appropriate. |
+10000 Can't a parent take the kid to the field and work 1v1 with him/her. It's not frickin rocket science. Put some cones out. Have him/her dribble through them and time her. Have her finish with a shot. Have her practice free kicks, corners, PKs. Punt some to her and have her trap it and take a shot on you. Working with someone outside of your family is f*****g stupid. Who is the trainer that is doing this? |
