VA schools closed for year, what does it mean for daycare?

Flipping my sh@&$. I thought maybe return in May at least, but closed until next year? What does this mean for daycares/preschool?
I 100% understand safety first, but this seems like an extreme measure.

Also in a financial bind, I can’t pay for childcare in full until June (or August) to hold a spot without care. I’ve already lost 30% of my income and it may be 50% soon and/or full job loss. At some point it has to give... Do I just unenroll and try to find a spot for the Fall? I love my daycare but it’s $2500 month

Are you able to file for unemployment due to your cut hours?

I’ve lost my entire income and am relying on childcare to begin working again. We just need to get through summer for kindergarten. I can’t expect clients to wait for fall. Waiting to see what our daycare offers before entirely losing my mind.

My daycare is trying to open 4/13. I'm still required to pay tuition. They will give us 20% off on April's tuition and will not charge for lunch.

Be sure to thank Governor McRacist in November.

His order today does not apply to daycares. If they can maintain the social distancing (no more than 10 to a room including providers, separate recesses, etc) then the daycare can remain open.

You misread the announcement. Closed for this school year, meaning May/June of 2020. Unknown from then on.

Wow, you are clueless. Unemployment does not work like that.

If there is no force majeure clause in the terms and conditions, or even if there is, where the clause does not cover events such as pandemics, the law of frustration may require refunds to be given to consumers (less any justifiable costs already incurred).

That’s not what he said though. He said daycares would remain open for essential personnel. He didn’t specify that they could all remain open with new regulations.

Considering how he isn’t eligible for re-election your “thanks” are worthless.

Yeah I’m still confused about the daycare situation. I think he said they’d issue new guidance in the next couple days?

I understand that essential workers need care. In MA, I think they’re doing specific childcare hubs for those workers.

But for non-essential workers, it seems like a huge transmission risk just to make it easier for non-essential workers to work from home. I’m in that category and yes the kids are distracting, but if I send my kid to daycare, my whole family will be exposed to the germs of hundreds of people: all the other kids, their parents, whoever their parents interact with getting groceries or doing whatever else they’re doing outside the house, the caregivers, the caregivers’ families, and everyone with whom the caregivers and their families interact with outside the house. How does that make any sense?!?!?

Exactly this. I’m a childcare worker. I have been home for a week, but I just learned that my husband’s co worker tested positive. If I was still working, I would have to stay home now, but everyone would have already been exposed to me. With hundreds of kids plus staff in one building, there are just too many factors at play.

My daycare thinks it is opening on Monday after spending 15 days shut. With 1 room and 13 kids and not enough space for kids to be 6 feet apart. And a strict "no food in the classroom" policy.

No idea how it will work. Mainly because I will not be sending my children.

My bigger worry is that she is putting her profit over children's safety and is not going to be following the regulations. If she opens on Monday, I am probably going to give notice because I am concerned at what other corners she will cut.

Northam just made a huge mistake asking childcares to open. This is going to kill so many more.
