His order today does not apply to daycares. If they can maintain the social distancing (no more than 10 to a room including providers, separate recesses, etc) then the daycare can remain open.
That’s not what he said though. He said daycares would remain open for essential personnel. He didn’t specify that they could all remain open with new regulations.
Yeah I’m still confused about the daycare situation. I think he said they’d issue new guidance in the next couple days? I understand that essential workers need care. In MA, I think they’re doing specific childcare hubs for those workers. But for non-essential workers, it seems like a huge transmission risk just to make it easier for non-essential workers to work from home. I’m in that category and yes the kids are distracting, but if I send my kid to daycare, my whole family will be exposed to the germs of hundreds of people: all the other kids, their parents, whoever their parents interact with getting groceries or doing whatever else they’re doing outside the house, the caregivers, the caregivers’ families, and everyone with whom the caregivers and their families interact with outside the house. How does that make any sense?!?!?
Exactly this. I’m a childcare worker. I have been home for a week, but I just learned that my husband’s co worker tested positive. If I was still working, I would have to stay home now, but everyone would have already been exposed to me. With hundreds of kids plus staff in one building, there are just too many factors at play.
