PLEASE stop telling me you're stupid, lazy, ugly and fat!!

For those who like to decribe themselves in these negative terms would you please keep them to yourself! Or at least reserve them for those who also use such terms when speaking of their own traits. Do you know how uncomfortable it makes other people when you describe yourself as ugly and you're NOT joking?! What are the other people in the conversation supposed to do...agree?! Is this some kind of attention seeking behavior that even adults display? A need for validation?

Well, I vow that the next time someone uses a negative term to describe themselves, then I am just going to agree. "Yup, you are fat. You should work on that if losing weight will make you feel better." "Yeah, at least 95% of the population is more attractive than you. Have you ever considered plastic surgery?" I can't wait to see the look on their faces .

Seriously, people, learn to love yourself and use descriptive words accordingly. You can empower yourself with a simple phrase. And you can uplift people with your positive energy. Leave the negative energy in 2009, I don't need it!

You're right. It's all about you.

With friends like you who needs enemies?

Kind of ironic statement.

Wow, as a motivational speaker, you totally suck.

and sorry if we have inconvenienced you with our problems.

I have never referred to myself as stupid, and I rarely describe myself as ugly. However, I often point out that I wasn't gifted with the beauty gene. As for fat, I describe myself that way because it's accurate at the moment, and a lot of my energy goes toward trying to remedy that. I am not seeking concurrence or disagreement, just mentioning some facts.

Does the OP recognize how low one's self esteem must be to refer to themselves that way??? I do it kiddingly, and it is STILL an insecurity thing!

I will admit that someone who CONSTANTLY puts themselves down can become a real debbie downer, but I would hope the friend would be a bit kinder is her approach...

WTF?

Well, I refer to myself as fat, because it's true. What other word should I use? I'm not putting myself down, although I'd like to be thinner. It is what it is, and I use it when appropriate in context. The speaker may mean exactly what she says, and that's all there is to it. Don't feel a need to correct or respond. Nobody responds to me (oh you are not fat!) because I am in fact fat.

I sort of agree with the OP...

My Dh is always saying, "Im fat" while looking in the mirror. It pisses me off because 1) he's not that fat, and 2) if thats how you feel, work out. Stop telling me about it

Be more sympathetic, OP. Offer advice to those who seem to need it, and don't worry if it is not followed.
