I have 2 kids with birthdays in the next week. We have canceled 3 parties (2 venues and 1 home). My kids are bummed. We always make a big deal on their birthday and have had parties for them every year. I originally thought I would let each kid have a few close friends over but we have had no contact with anyone since Friday.
I plan to bake with the kids, also ordered a cake. I also ordered almost everything off their amazon wish list (half for their birthday and half to entertain them during this pandemic). What are you planning for your kids’ birthdays? I promised my kids that I would reschedule. Thought it would be April. Now thinking if will be never. |
I had a teary tween when I explained that we will not be able to do the dinner she wanted this year.
The tears went away quickly when we said - that since we were practicing social distancing [no contact with friends since Friday] we thought that she needed her own phone. |
Family party fun -- with IOU for future friend sleepover we had planned. |
His birthday is April 30th and we had his sleepover this past Friday as a last hurrah for however long. |
We are skipping 3 birthday parties in the family: mine and two of our kids, all in March and April.
Oh well. |
Same here - haven't told DC yet that we won't be able to have her birthday |
DC’s neighborhood buddy has a birthday next week. We are going to go chalk his driveway with birthday messages overnight. Maybe make yard signs.
It’s hard ![]() |
This is a good idea. OP, maybe you could give a gift you wouldn't typically give to make up for the lack of a party. |
Never? Isnt that a bit extreme? Teach them to be grateful for smaller celebrations and to be alive. Next year I'm sure will be better. |
I meant that we would not be rescheduling their party this year. They can have a party next year. |
My kids have May birthdays. We got them HUGE new toy we know they want, but was more money than we would ever usually spend. Giving them the special extra present on the day their party was scheduled to be held. Figure it still cheaper than a party. |
Isnt may a little early to call it off? I’m not judging. We have may bday, too but who knows how long this lasts |
bump. Any ideas for an August birthday? I don't think my 7 year old would enjoy a drive by party. |
We have a birthday this week. We live in an apartment, with no outdoor space. A family member has offered to host us for a small family gathering. We will be masked indoors and will eat outside in the blazing heat. I’m prepping all the food and they’ll heat it. Making all her fave foods and getting decorations. The two cousins will run through sprinkler. Her big gift this year was a bike. We’ll go for a family bike ride when the sun is not trying to kill us on the evening.
It’s more than we’d hoped for tbh. Thought we were doing a zoom party. Was going to have craft things sent to each person to do on camera and pretend to blow out candles together. Weak. |
Everyone in my neighborhood is getting those obnoxious (but sort of cute) yard signs that spell out:
Happy 7th Birthday Maddie! |
