My kid turned 8 in June. I didn’t she would want a drive by parade either. We decided to ask people to stop by and eat an ice cream with us in our front yard and driveway. I gave a 90 min window and said come whenever in that window. Most people stayed about 20-30 mins. I had 3 different ice creams/popsicles in a cooler outside and handed them out. Most people socially distanced. Some kids didn’t but I think they were all so happy to see each other they just ran around like lunatics. I didn’t do this because I left it to late to go buy enough chalk, but you could hand out chalk ( that they then keep) and have each kid draw something in your driveway or sidewalk in addition to getting an ice cream........ |
That sounds so fun! Even in normal times. |
My DD is turning 10 in about a month. I don’t think she’d enjoy a drive by party and I don’t feel comfortable with a socially distant party outside (and it’s too hot, really, to be fun). I think all we can do is have a special dinner of her choice at home and sing happy birthday with family and friends on a Zoom.

DS is turning 5 next week. We're having his 2 best friends over to play in the backyard. We've been having socially distant playdates with these 2 kids since May. |
My nearly seven year old would love this! Where did you order the signs? |
That will be special. It’s not much different than what we normal do. |
Surprise birthday party at home, nobody is invited, just us. I plan to decorate the entire main floor and buy a cake. DD is going to be ecstatic when she walks down, she's been counting down the days to her birthday. |
We have three summer birthdays for our kids.
We’re not socializing at all so we went a bit crazy with gifts they wanted Also balloons and decorations for a big family breakfast, then they’re favorite food for dinner and lots of treats and a big cake. |
We were invited to a party where guests were invited to drop by between 11-1. The mom drew circles (with chalk) in her driveway and kids were invited to stand in one and dance. The birthday girl, of course, had a circle. The kids were happy to see each other and enjoyed dancing.

I arranged an ice cream truck to come to a park near my house. Kids sat spaced out to eat and then masked up to play on the playground. Low key and easy. |
I did this for my son in NoVa. I used Sign Sisters. |
I have no idea. He is turning 11 and says he doesn't want anything. So maybe we are doing nothing. He has friends but doesn't want me to organize drive or bike bys to hand out cake. |
July birthday for a six-year-old. We baked a cake with him the day before and put together a scavenger hunt for him to find his presents in the morning. His presents were pretty big: Nintendo Switch with Mario Kart and some big PJ Masks toys. Then mini golf and fave takeout meals during the day. |
My 9 year old got the laptop he will need for DL this school year. I made him cupcakes in the flavor he wanted, and he got to pick dinner. Some friends drove by and brought a card. He was fine. Caveat is that I told him from the beginning when he asked that he probably wouldn’t be able to have a party. |
My just turned 11. He wanted to try a BBLT at sonic for some strange reason. Never been before. Drove out to Manassas for lunch and ate in one of the drive-in spots. Happiest kid ever. |
