Puzzles. I’m not a huge puzzle fan and neither are my kids, but we like to do them together.

Def puzzles. The harder the better.
If you have a backyard, any outdoor games that your family can play together
Cards and card games. Now might be the time for those long leisurely Risk marathons.
Learn to knit? Or something similar? Make pinewood derby cars?

I just ordered a bunch of rolls of duct tape. My kids like to use cardboard and duct tape to make weapons and armor. WE have a stack of cardboard we were going to recycle and now we will let them build a giant fort with it too.

For younger kids, you can go through a lot of painters tape by just giving them the rolls and letting them do it all over the floor and furniture. Our nursery school had a huge tape budget.

we are putting in a small square foot garden.

Also growing microgreens and doing sprouts.

Remember that if you order stuff online, that means a whole bunch of people have to physically go to work?

Playdough and/or clay; noodles that stick together when you dampen them (for building things); agree with Duck tape in several fun colors and kids can create forts with that + old boxes. Marble mazes (though that can get pricey).

For slightly older kids, google Rube Goldberg. My kid spent an entire day building one with stuff around the house and then recording his results with an iPad.

This is a good thread, OP. I will try to think of more things.

And get paid, and not lose their health insurance, and make their rent, and purchase their groceries.

My six year old loves Melissa and Doug mess free glitter kits. (They really are mess free)

Another win has been books like this: https://smile.amazon.com/Pirate-Coloring-Calculate-Color-Squares/dp/1092916679/ref=mp_s_a_1_2?keywords=math+color&qid=1584407432&sr=8-2
There are a ton of them—he has a Pokémon and Minecraft one. Knocks out math and keeps him entertained independently.

Ordered a Lego VW Surfer Beetle Kit for my 14 yr old.

My 8 and 5 year old spent an hour playing Forbidden Island today. We also have old school games like Battleship and Trivial Pursuit to break out.

One item that we own that I am going to take out at some point is this awesome 1000 piece world map puzzle. It is so hard! But so interesting.

For outdoors, are you familiar with Stomp Rockets?
