Informal Poll for MCPS teachers: do you have an uptick in absences yesterday or today?

Anonymous
I did. 10%. Not staggering but up from a max of 5% for a day that doesn’t back against a holiday or half day.

Walked into neighboring classroom that had at least 10 missing students. Coworker said 7 missing yesterday.

Not mcps, but in Fairfax my 3 yos preschool class had almost half the kids out (and same thing in the other 3 yo class)

My child's class had 9 students absent today, and 6 on Friday.

Elementary, middle or high school? My high schooler would be distraught if he missed a day - too much work in missed instruction and assignments.

0 absent yesterday
1 absent today

yea, my HSer DC , too, but DC was out last week for a day with a cold. No fever, no chills, no shortness of breath, but due to an abundance of caution, DC stayed home. If not for covid, DC might've gone to school. It was mostly congestion and coughing.

I had about 15% absent today and yesterday. I don't blame parents. Building services doesn't have the staffing to actually clean anything - they just sweep the floors and replace bathroom products. When I used to clean the desks after school every day, I got parent complaints about chemicals, so my classroom is saturated in germs.

Also, I had to send two miserable feverish kids to the health room today -- I don't understand people sending their kids to school sick in a normal environment, but doing it now just seems crazy.

I normally have kept mine home but after several failing grades from earlier this year because the teacher refused make up work despite agreeing to it, mine went to school after a cold this weekend. Teacher doesn't clean despite given supplies by several of us.

I’m OP. Last week, I sent a child to the nurse at the start of 4th pd. She returned and said she had a fever. I emailed the nurse to ask if she did indeed send a feverish child back to class and the nurse said it was a Hippa violation to tell me.

For me, 2-3% is average. Again, maybe 5% max on days without three day weekend potential.
