Thoughts on Davidson College from current or recent parents/students?

Noticed it has taken a tumble in US News rankings from 9/10 to 17 for what that's worth.

That s hardly a tumble. No personal experience, but it is a good school and difficult to get into.

That's a blip. Nothing substantial has changed there. Still en excellent college.

People need to stop wringing their hands and clutching their pearls when a college drops a few spots. Differences are minuscule at that range.

Changes in the methodology last year prioritized colleges that successfully promote social mobility. A worthy goal, but not a reason to be alarmed at the drop in rank. Academic quality and selectivity (ie, strong peer group) are the same as before.

Talk about the corruption of wokeness.

My daughter will be attending in the fall and is SO excited. We were so impressed by Davidson and think it is the perfect school for her. Not worried at all about the blip. It is an amazing school.

My S too can't wait to start at Davidson in August. It is a wonderful school with a strong core curriculum and incredible school spirit for a campus of 2000 kids. Great academic reputation where it matters and it has D1 sports! Though US News rankings aren't the be all end all, the ranking drop was due solely to the # of Pell Grant kids in 2010-11 (and their comparative performance vs the rest of the student body) which was an anomaly that school year. Davidson is still the same school and arguably the best small liberal arts college in the South.

My DC applied there. We were very impressed with the school. Easy campus to fly to from here. Strong honor code, cute town. It us difficult to get in though.

My D is nervously waiting on Davidson after being rejected Dartmouth ED. Davidson was a close 2nd choice, and she thinks she may have made a big mistake by not applying ED2 to Davidson. Sigh. Fingers crossed here!

2,000 kids plus D1 sports is such a great combo. It would have been amazing to be there during the Steph Curry years.

If she was qualified to be in contention for Dartmouth ED, she should be fine for Davidson. Looking forward to having my D meet her. We did same. In RD pool.

DP, but I don't see the connection with "wokeness" here, or a reason to view the factor negatively. Colleges that are able to provide kids with the tools/connections to move up one or more SES levels compared to their parents income level ought to receive credit, no? The studies on this are fascinating: https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2017/01/18/upshot/some-colleges-have-more-students-from-the-top-1-percent-than-the-bottom-60.html

I know several alums who are currently in their 30s. They are all above-average in terms of how kind they are (like really, noticeably, nice people) and seem to have been successful in grad school admissions and their careers so far.

I'm in the Charlotte area and the Davidson alumni network is very tight. Every Davidson grad I know is always willing to go the extra mile for a fellow alum.
