Brookland/ Ward 5

What are your PK3 or PK4 lists.?

There are so many schools in the area, it took me forever to cut it down. But here it is. We reluctantly decided LAMB and DCB were too far away, as is Burroughs. We moved here from a place that doesn't have any free preschool so I think it is pretty awesome to have it at all.

1) Washington Yu Ying
2) Stokes Spanish
3) Stokes French
4) Mundo Verde P St
5) Inspired Teaching
6) Two Rivers 4th
7) Mundo Verde 8th St
8) Lee (although the test scores give me pause)
9) Langley
10) Langdon
11) Noyes IB (and we would definitely attend)

I’m curious, PP - would you attend Langdon over Noyes? Why the preference? Or did you lottery for Langdon Montessori?

We did not lottery for Langdon Montessori because we don't live in the boundary so I thought there was no hope. Was that wrong?

Langdon over Noyes because Langdon's test scores are stronger, and because we can always change our mind and go back to Noyes.

Not sure what CC is, but the regular non-Montessori class at Langdon.

This is a GREAT list but I would put LAMB over Langdon because of the MS path. I take it you’re not on the Yu Ying train?

No Yu Ying because we can’t support Mandarin at home. Kingsbury isn’t convenient for us so LAMB would be a 3 yr option; Langdon/CHML works much better for us commute-wise.

Why Langley over Langdon? I’ve seen that around in this forum (Langdon is my kids IB). From what I see Langley is a 2 star school and the test scores are poor. Is there something I’m not seeing?

For PK4, currently at our IB and liking it, so we're only ranking moon-shot schools just in case we get a phenomenal master number.

1. DCB
2. Stokes Spanish
3. Stokes French
4. ITS
5. Lee
6. MV8

... so basically we'll be back at our IB, lol.

For a few reasons. Langley is better for our commute, we live just slightly outside the Langley boundary to the north and more than a mile west of Langdon, so Langley is borderline walkable, Langdon is not. Langley's scores look better if you only look at the gen ed classrooms without rolling in the special ed classrooms that are separate. We have a several friends at Langley who really like it, and the principal seemed great. Having said that we would be happy with Langdon too.

Basically same, for PK4. At in-bounds and really like it, so we'd be happy to stay. I'm not even sure if we'd leave if we got a spot at one of these, honestly:

1. ITS
2. Stokes (Spanish)
3. Stokes (French)
