Takoma Park trying to ban fossil fuel everything

Anonymous
TP floating the idea of banning gas stations and gas stoves.

Nothing is better than gas stoves for cooking. Using electric stoves sucks. You need a gas stove to do things like cook Asian food with a wok. Why do liberals like in TP and Berkeley (who has already banned gas stoves) want so much control over our lives? People will end up wasting more fossil fuels having to travel even further distances to get gas for their trucks to go to work. How will all of those Amazon delivery trucks deliver packages to those rich liberal residents?

You do realize that not everyone subscribes to the Washington Post and, more than likely, will not be able to read that linked article, right?

Perhaps you should go into details about the proposal if you want people to get outraged as much as you are too.

Also, if you don't live in Takoma Park, why do you care?

They’re suggesting banning has leaf blowers, stoves, and water heaters by 2045. In 25 years this is not revolutionary or problematic. Plus, these bans always grandfather in older existing structures - they’re usually about new construction and renovation. Leaf blowers are already banned in TKPK...I live there.

Also, I think many (most?) chefs prefer induction.

But I noticed they've stubbornly refused to outlaw cars for city residents.

Seems like their concern about the environment is really just window dressing, as they're avoiding hard measures that might get people mad.

Induction stoves are the worst. Gas is the best. You can instantly turn off and on your heat source and much finer control with gas than induction and electric stoves.

So it’s your position that if a city or person, etc. doesn’t do it all, then they should do nothing? You don’t believe in incremental steps?

Remember when liberals were pushing for TP to force everyone to burn corn to hear their homes?

https://www.baltimoresun.com/news/bs-xpm-2002-11-18-0211180144-story.html

It only died after a lot of effort had to be spent explaining the utter stupidity of the proposal from the logistics to the waste of even more fossil fuels actually growing the corn.

They're also not big fans of infill development of housing.

Nope.

OP, in many parts of the developed world, people use electric stoves. Even Asians!

Stop it with your stupid whining. I commend TP for experimenting with more sustainable lifestyles. At least they’re trying, which is more than can be said for you!

At this rate TP will ban TP to wipe your behind after pooping because it is 'bad for the environment'. Why do you need toilet paper when you can use your hand that's re-usable?

If you don't want to live in Takoma Park, there's an easy solution.

I don’t think you’ve ever used an induction range. Which has much more precise control than even gas.

If TP wants people to use less gasoline, they should allow MUCH denser development in all the parts of TP (most?) that are walking distance to the metro station. That will have far more impact than making people drive outside of town to buy gas.
