| my daughter is just starting crew in High School. Does anyone know how crew recruiting works? is it like soccer with dedicated days by colleges to observe? thanks! |
|
It's all about her 2k time on the erg. Being tall helps too.
Roughly Division 1 schools want a time under 7:30, Division 3 under 7:45 https://www.ncsasports.org/womens-rowing/college-rowing-times |
| What about for coxswains? |
| OP here, thank you!! |
| Also being on a nationally recognized team and being "the one" the coach recommends. |
Stay little.

I know a coxswain who was recruited and ended up at an excellent Division 1 program. One thing they did was make recordings of them coxing during races. Also, rowing for one of the local clubs during summer and fall is important for recruiting. TBC is probably the top local club https://www.tbcracing.org/ My kids learned a lot during their summer rowing program. |
Aunt Becky has the hook up. |
A do I and by her sophomore year she was in an extensive therapy program for her eating disorder from the coaches keeping on her about not gaining weight. |
| Your DD is just starting rowing. I wouldn't jump to the recruitment process just yet. |
This. Unless she 5’9”+ and naturally athletic. Or under 110 lbs and extroverted. |
Good point. Let her try it and see if it becomes her thing. |
Not true. Friend's kid started rowing in 9th. Not athletic at all. Had never rowed. Tall, for sure. The Hs is not a top program. By junior year was being recruited by D1 schools. |
