We just got our daughter's birth certificate, and my husband's name is (kind of hilariously) misspelled. Clearly a typo/person didn't care.
Has anyone ever dealt with getting it fixed? Just getting the birth certificate was an ordeal, so now I'm dreading getting it changed. |
Tell us what it says. You don't have to give the last name. I need a good laugh. |
Sure, just file the paperwork and wait a few weeks.
You didn't state which county/state you're in, so we can't be of much help. |
OP here-- sorry, we're in DC. |
My name is misspelled on my daughter's DC birth certificate too. They are so freaking lazy there. |
Yes. File the paperwork. I filled out my paperwork correctly, and in Virginia, the birth certificate I received stated that there was no mother and only a father. How do you mess that up? DH and I are married and I gave birth in a hospital. My insurance wouldn't accept that birth certificate and it was a mess because the whole thing took 5 months to fix. Thanks Virginia. |
I have actually found vital records to be one of the best run agencies in DC. We had particularly good luck going in person right when they opened for the day. The process with the hospital, which handled the initial birth certificate was cumbersome, by Vital Records was a well-oiled machine. |
Go in person. Super easy. |
My daughter's birth certificate also had errors in DC. The birth registrar at the hospital had to submit documentation to DC records so a corrected copy could be issued. Spoiler alert: her official birth certificate still contains all the errors (my name misspelled, her father's name misspelled, and incorrect birth date) but there are 'footnotes' with the corrected info. |
We had a minor typo (in DC) and were able to get it fixed without going in person, but it took a little while and I was annoyed that I had to pay the fee again... |
They actually have the wrong time of birth on mine , it says PM instead of AM. I didn’t bother changing it since it’s not really vital information like the name. |
My last passport listed me as a male. And my first name is Elizabeth. Just saying. |
This is why my middle name is Mari and not Marie. |
Yes, but as odd as it may seem there are boys named Elizabeth out there. According to this thread in 1989 there were 141 boys named Elizabeth but only 8 named so in 2010. But there still seem to be quite a few boys named Elizabeth out there. Like the posters over there, I'm curious what nicknames the boys go by? Eli? I kind of like Zab as a male nickname. https://forums.thebump.com/discussion/6970939/boys-named-elizabeth |
My son’s BC was messed up... they clearly switched between two applications because the mother’s name - me - was so incredibly wrong. Like my name is Janet and they typed in Ming Lee Wong. It was a pain, and my insurance and LTD had to wait, but they fixed it. |
