Most have attributed the increase in foreign students at these universities to the fact that they are "full pay." This certainly casts a whole new light on that term.
The article says that this issue gained prominence after the arrest of a Harvard Chemistry Professor who didn't disclose the fact that he received funding from the Chinese government for a project that was being funded by the U.S. government. https://www.wsj.com/articles/education-department-investigating-harvard-yale-over-foreign-funding-11581539042 The Education Department opened investigations into Harvard and Yale as part of a continuing review that it says has found U.S. universities failed to report at least $6.5 billion in foreign funding from countries such as China and Saudi Arabia, according to department materials viewed by The Wall Street Journal. |

Yes, corruption is bad - in universities and in our government.
The Harvard guy was profiting himself as an individual - Harvard wasn’t. Bad guys abusing the system. Sounds familiar. |
| Now look at who manages those funds, which organizations benefit, and look at which nations or companies benefit. |
Didn't some Rs fail to disclose funding from foreign sources? Didn't the NRA get Russian money? Did they report it? I honestly can't recall. |
You were saying? https://www.ed.gov/news/press-releases/test-0 U.S. Department of Education Launches Investigation into Foreign Gifts Reporting at Ivy League Universities Since July, the Department has uncovered more than $6 billion in unreported foreign gifts from countries including Qatar, China, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates FEBRUARY 12, 2020 Contact: Press Office, (202) 401-1576, press@ed.gov WASHINGTON — The U.S. Department of Education announced today it is launching investigations into both Harvard and Yale Universities after it appears both Ivy League higher education institutions potentially failed to report hundreds of millions of dollars in foreign gifts and contracts. |
Read more carefully. The incident with the Harvard Professor just brought additional scrutiny that has brought billions more of contributions to the colleges themselves to light. There is a longstanding law that requires that such contributions be reported to the Department of Education, but it hasn't been enforced and the colleges have been basically ignoring it. |
Interesting how the comments about Democrats receiving $$ from foreign countries get deleted, but the ones referring to Republicans stand. I really enjoy this board, but I'm done with the moderator's political agenda. |
So you’re taking off? |
| Hopefully they'll get hammered, by Billions of Dollars in fines. |
+1 Even better, tuition fees should be capped by law at say $10k/ year. |
| If only! that would be wonderful |
With that amount, they probably will charge you a fee for every question you ask in the classroom. The professors are too expensive to hire, and the teaching/research facilities are too costly to acquire. |

I think you are confused with the illegal funding from the Chinese to the Clintons. How conveniently you forget. https://www.nationalreview.com/2017/07/chinese-illegally-donated-bill-clinton-reelection-campaign-media-downplayed/ https://www.cbsnews.com/news/chinese-company-pledged-2-million-to-clinton-foundation-in-2013/ |
I have noticed this, too. Liberal snowflakes need to live in their utopia to survive. |
