Shampoo to help with bacne

Anonymous
My 11 year old DD suffers from terrible back acne. She has two prescription creams and will likely go on antibiotics but I was wondering if anyone has a shampoo to suggest to help with back breakouts. It's so bad that it almost looks like a reaction to her current shampoo. Thank you!

Suggest Japanese wash towel. I bought one years ago at an Asian market and no longer suffer from back breakouts. Here's amazon link, whole foods also carries them

Neutrogena body wash:

And use a shampoo with no parabens or sulfates.

I switched, and now rarely get bacne.

When I had it as a teen, it seem to be escaerbated by carrying a bookbag on my back. When I switched to a hand held bag, it significantly decreased.

I also used the netrogena body acne wash (it's orange) and comes in a tall container.

I remember reading somewhere that conditioner exacerbates back acne, and to scrub the back after rinsing out conditioner rather than before. Just an FYI.

Trader Joe's tea tree bodywash really helps DD's back acne.

My DS uses a benzoyl peroxide body wash. I've noticed (for him) that benzoyl peroxide seems more effective than Salicylic acid (what is usually found in acne body washes).

Just be careful-- DS started using the benzoyl peroxide wash on his face in the shower (I told him the concentration was too strong for his face but he didn't listen)-- he got a little windburn look that went away after a few days (lesson learned)

He uses have that strength plus differin for his face and that works well in combination.

btw OP-- I'm sorry your DD is dealing with this. I had acne on back as a teen-- it made me so upset...happy ending, Accutane at 16.

This (benzyl peroxide) is one of the only nonprescription treatments that has been shown to work in rigorous scientific studies. Don't listen to all this mumbo jumbo horse crap about tea tree oil. Good god these forums are trash

Panoxyl. Saved DH face! You can use it on back or chest, too.

it's the shampoo or conditioner, OP. (or if she's using any hair spray. Conditioner and hairspray are the worst!)

And to get rid of bacne, (I have two teen DDs, and one's was a nightmare) the best thing is to take her to an esthician, and have the esthician do two things:

First, have a "back facial" where she cleans out the pores (gets out the guck)

Then a few days to a week later, microdermabrasion on the back.

Then repeat a week or two later, because there is acne that has started but still needs to come to the surface.

It's an investment, but if you do say, three rounds of this (so 6 appointments total) you will break the cycle.
