| I had a lot of luck with topical use of clindamycin at that age - it's a topical antibiotic. I tried a ton of stuff before that. |

Has anyone tried Tazorac for their teen

My daughter has been on it for months and her skin looks awful. We are going to try accutane next. Tazorac is really strong - her face is red and raw a lot (obviously we manage and she backs off using it but yikes). |
| My son has been on Amzeeq (topical for minocycline) for three weeks now after being in epiduo for 6 months. We didn’t want the minocyline due to the side effects but the Amzeeq doesn’t seem to help with acne either. |

I posted months ago requesting info on accutane here because like many of you my teen son had been on the antibiotic/topical roller coaster. His skin took a turn for the worse and we pretty much had our mind made up that it was time for accutane and I posted here to see what others had experienced with their teens taking this drug. 99% of the responses were a resounding yes, do it as this had been the only treatment that actually stopped the acne. One poster responded with "take him to see an aesthetician" and they were stopped in their tracks and ran out of the thread.
Anyhow, that one odd post planted a seed and we scheduled our teen to see a local aesthetician that deals with acne prone skin. To make a long story short, it's been 6 months and the treatments, products to promote healthy skin balance and a few diet changes have COMPLETELY cleared our kids acne as well as the scars he had. If this treatment hadn't worked, then yes we probably would have resorted to accutane. I'm not posting this to bad talk accutane or those who have made that hard decision to use it and rid these poor kids of the blemishes. I just wanted to post our experience for perspective and in hopes that some of you can give it a shot and see if it works before having to jump to the most powerful and controversial option. |
Can you provide more details on exactly what’s being done? I have seen other posts like this but no one ever explains the exact treatment plan so it’s hard to replicate. Also, if you live in the DC area can you provide costs and aesthetician recommendations? TIA! |
| Epiduo is working pretty well for my DS..he had a lot of pimples, but not cystic. His skin isn't perfect, but so much better |
What is he using as a cleanser and moisturizer? |
| Clinical Strength Head and Shoulders was a better cure than prescription meds. Daily shampoo and wash face and back with it. |
Would you mind posting what products he is is using and the changes you have made to to the diet... I just stopped my son from using any dairy products this week as we don’t want to go through the Accutane route. TIA |
|
My kids do not have it severely but their dermatologist prescribed a combination of accuzone (benzyl peroxide higher strength) and adapalene .3% which works well. She said that the combination is important and one without the other does not work well.
We haven't done the antibiotic but I have read that it is very targeted and only works on the bacteria that kills acne unlike the other antibiotics that you get for a sinus or other infection which have a broader range of what they kill. |
No dairy of any kind and no nuts or anything with nuts or seeds like peanutbutter, sunflower seeds or sunflower seed butter etc. Sounds insane I know, but seeing is believing. The whole premise is making the skin healthy vice constantly dry like most acne meds do. Dry = irritation and more acne. This hasn't been a quick fix and I admit that I was skeptical even after a few months in, but it all came through in the clutch. Removing dairy completely from a teen diet isn't easy and most things they love and crave have dairy, cheese etc. Once they are clear, you can introduce dairy back in on occassion....having a few slices of pizza or a milkshake, but the other 99% of the time you have to stick to the diet. Good luck. |

Oh no! My son lives on anything peanut as he is allergic to
All other nuts. |
I can attest to eliminating dairy, corn, gluten for acne. My skin inflammation and breakouts went away by cutting them out...if I eat wrong instant zits. |
Intrigued. Is this from Glowmode in Tyson’s? I have heard similar stories from there, but have not taken my DC. |
