Can anyone comment on laceless cleats? My son wants a pair but I'm skeptical. Do they come off too easy? Are they a pain to take off? Put on? How have they worked for you or your kid?
Thanks |
| My daughter LOVES her laceless cleats, and does not for any reason want laces again. She (U16) has had zero issues with the cleats coming off or being hard to get on. |
Prepare for lots of blisters (more than any other thing my DS tried, a longer breaking in time so give it like a month, make sure it is snug because they will loosen up after broken in and with no laces, it will either fit or it won't, and if he has wide feet, forget it. |

I got my DS a pair of the Nike Vision cleats one season. They are technically not laceless but they have an upper that hides the laces, I think they call it ghost laces. After he broke it in he could slide them in and out with moderate ease. After he started playing with he didnt have to mess with the laces again and he didnt have any blisters or other foot pain.
He wants to try the adidas ones next. They take down model is affordable and worth a try I think although the reviews do say it is harder to take off and on. |
It's not a bad thought. Warning: my DS did that, and the "hidden laces" style (which I think both Nike and Adidas either did or do) don't fit the same way. |
We saw the exact opposite of this experience with our kids. |
Sure, I do think natural foot shape is a factor. Wide feet or narrow? And "tall" feet or "short" ? I don't know how tp phrase it but from the ground to the top of the foot. However, when they first came out, it spread like wild fire and that was the majority experience of lots of blisters. One coach who still played on the side recommended half size down for a snugger fit. |
| They are a gimmick. Most players want a cleat that fits more snugly, thus the need for laces. |
| My son has very high arches ("tall feet" as PP named them). Anyone have good luck finding ones that fit that foot style? |
My son had some foot pain (not high arches) and I just replaced his insoles with superfeet. you can cut them down to size and even after the foot paid he still wears them today because he says he feels it takes some pressure off his heel. Check out superfeet (or other brand)..they must have insoles that can help. |
Does he also have wide feet? My son with high arches and wide feet can only fit into all leather Nikes. He can't even get his toes into the no lace shoes. |
My son's are the same way. He wanted to wear faceless so bad because of his friends, and we never found a pair that was even remotely close to being an option. |
| My son likes the nemeziz ones that are tongue less but still have laces. |
No, he has normal width feet... just really high arches. And it does give him some foot pain, as a PP mentioned. We do use the superfeet inserts. |

Mine need to wedge their feet in loveless cleats with a shoehorn which is a huge PIA when they don’t have one—-like today when one took his cleats off in between games and it took a full 10 min to try to put one back on because no shoe horn in his backpack.
I hate synthetic cleats as well the stink is atrocious. I’m a fan of pure leather, old school lace up which none of my kids like. |
